Congratulations and thank you, Tricia!
For someone to dedicate 45 years to nursing, one thing is VERY obvious – they must really love what they do.
And that’s exactly what has kept Tricia Shinn caring for patients at Innisfail Hospital since she began her nursing training at just 17 years of age.
Nursing isn’t just a profession for Tricia; it’s in her blood. At a time when male nurses were rare, her father, Raymond Nunn, was the last male dresser at Innisfail Hospital, where he also dedicated 45 years of service. Tricia’s sister is a nurse too, while their mother worked as a kitchen maid at the hospital, creating a remarkable family connection to Innisfail Hospital and the local community.
Healthcare has changed enormously during Tricia’s 45-year career. She says one of the biggest differences today is the strong sense of teamwork, with more open communication, colleagues addressing each other by their first names, and staff feeling confident to speak up.
When asked what has kept her going for 45 years, Tricia’s answer is beautifully simple:
❤️ “I come to work to do my work. I love my work.”
Congratulations, Tricia, and thank you for 45 years of dedication, compassion and service to our community. What an incredible milestone! 👏
