Closing the gap by providing the evidence base for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health

For over 20 years, the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet has provided support to those working in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health sector by making research and other knowledge readily accessible. Our website hosts published, unpublished and specially-developed material about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, making these resources freely accessible to people with the

aim of enhancing their knowledge and skills and improving their practice and/or policy work. For students and the general community, the knowledge accessible via our website aims to improve their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and related areas. We encourage and support information-sharing among practitioners, policy-makers and others working to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s health. Our core functions are made possible by grants (particularly from the Australian Department of Health and Ageing's Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, and Indigenous Programs and Psychostimulants Section). Specific research activities are supported by funds from a variety of sources. The 2026 Deadly S*x Congress is being held in Meanjin/Brisbane to bring together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sexual health workers from across Queensland.

It is an opportunity for attendees to expand their knowledge and skills and share valuable stories and experiences. There will also be updates on current and emerging issues in blood-borne viruses (BBVs) and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Attendance is free and accommodation is available for those travelling to the conference but places are limited so timely registration is important.

They cover what perinatal mental wellbeing is, birth trauma, how to keep babies safe through help or support, and antenatal/postnatal anxiety and depression.

Djeelya is a program run by The Spear Foundation in Boorloo (Perth), WA.

It supports Closing the Gap targets by responding to the over-representation of Aboriginal young women in the justice system and the urgent need for culturally safe interventions.

The program seeks to provide participants with an opportunity to build meaningful futures by nurturing healing, resilience self-worth and physical wellbeing and connecting participants with mentoring, learning and earning pathways.

WA: The WA Department of Health is developing its first Preventative Health Strategy to improve quality of life, create thriving communities and reduce pressure on the WA health system.

West Australians are being asked to have their say on what supports better health and wellbeing by participating in an anonymous, online survey to help shape the Strategy and make sure it reflects what matters to the community.

The survey closes Friday 24 July 2026.
