In Chinese medicine, your period is seen as a sacred window for rest, renewal, and gentle nourishment.

It’s a time to slow down, protect the body from cold and wind, and offer warm, supportive foods to aid the smooth movement of qi and blood.

Honouring this phase can help regulate your cycle, ease discomfort, and build long-term vitality ❤️

Book some acupuncture if your period is causing you any concerns or discomfort; and we can provide a personalised treatment plan for your return to optimal health, including foods and other lifestyle tips to use at home 👌🏼

AACMAC 2026 ✨

My first AACMAC weekend done… and another reminder of why I value professional development so much.

AACMAC, the Australasian Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine Annual Conference, brings together practitioners, researchers and educators from across our profession to learn, share ideas and explore where acupuncture and Chinese medicine fit within our evolving healthcare landscape.

I always come away from these weekends with my brain buzzing… new research to read, clinical ideas to explore and plenty to think about.

This year’s program for me focused on fertility, male factor infertility, women’s health, integrative cancer care, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, post-cancer treatment, children’s health, perimenopause and ADHD, along with the growing body of research supporting acupuncture.

One theme really stood out to me: the importance of integration. I don’t want healthcare to be “us and them.” I want to see different practitioners working alongside each other, using the right support at the right time, with the same patient goals.

That’s where I think the magic happens.

And then there’s the reality of attending a weekend like this - I came home and crashed pretty hard. 😂 My body is still figuring out how to keep going some days and learning to respect that is part of my professional development too.

Because for me, professional development isn’t just about the hours or certificates. It’s about staying curious, staying accountable and continuing to grow so the care I provide keeps evolving with the evidence.

And I genuinely love that part of my work. 🤍

Thanks to all the amazing presenters and Aust. Acupunture Chinese Med. for a great weekend.

📚 Want the research? Email me and let me know which topic you’re interested in, and I’m happy to send through the relevant papers and references.

We are keeping super cool in Melbourne with a big weekend of connection and professional development at AACMAC. So nice to be amongst everyone after such a long time… and having my fave little person with me! Kian found pure joy in spotting acupuncturist’s - apparently we are a rare but very identifiable vibe 🥰😂

Today I went for a walk in the sunshine ☀️… now, in bed at 7.30pm completely exhausted.

This week is 9mths since my double mastectomy with DIEP flap reconstruction, 10.5mths since I finished six months of chemo, 4 months since I finished 5wks of radiation, & just 2.5wks since I completed a year of HER2 therapy.

That was the journey a stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis took me.

For someone who has always put so much energy into health, those treatments weren’t actually what hurt the most. It was my diagnosis. 🥹

19mths ago, my world was turned upside down… & as much as my body has been through since then, coming back to life has been just as hard.

How does someone who puts so much energy into health get this sick? And then… how do you find your way back to health when you’re still trying to answer, how did I end up here?

When you get to No Evidence of Disease & everyone thinks you’re ok… then what… when your whole world was pulled out from underneath you? 🤷🏻‍♀️

This week also marks 6mths of trying to find a new norm with work & home. Catching every bug because my immune system is still rebuilding. Trying to find a work schedule that works with my energy, my family, my clients & my purpose. Trying to fit in the self-care my body needs, so it can heal the many scars.

Healing doesn’t end when treatment does.

The social anxiety after a year away from normal life has surprised me. There are days I miss the peace that year offered me… despite how awful it was. It’s all so confusing. I think it’s the most lost I’ve ever felt, while also being the happiest just to be here.

This is the reality of chronic illness for so many people… celebrating the victories while trying to find a way home in a body that has lost its way.

So I go for a walk in the sunshine, sing my favourite song at the top of my lungs, eat food that both nourishes me & brings me joy, honour whatever emotion is present, & trust that, little by little, I’ll find my way home again. 🙏🏻

Much love to everyone walking the path of chronic illness. With love, light & strength. 🤗❤️

🖤 These little (black) beans are super stars to add to any soups or stews, and are highly regarded in TCM for their nourishing and tonifying properties.
They fit the picture for their colour supporting our Kidney energy - remember everything that is dark in colour often supports this Kidney and Bladder meridians; so therefore are an important food for the Winter and Water element.

“In the midst of Winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible Summer.” ~ Albert Camus

I’ve shared this quote many times over the years because it reflects one of the key principles of Chinese Medicine.

Everything in nature moves in cycles. Yin becomes Yang. Night becomes day. Winter becomes Spring. There is no season that lasts forever.

In the Five Elements, Winter is associated with the Water Element. It is the season of stillness, restoration, deep nourishment and quiet potential. Although little appears to be happening above the ground, beneath the surface life is gathering strength. Roots are growing. Energy is being conserved. The foundations for Spring are being laid.

The same is true for us.

There are seasons to create, to expand and to bloom. There are also seasons to slow down, reflect, restore and simply be. Neither is more valuable than the other but they cannot exist without the other.

When we honour each season instead of fighting it, we begin to move with nature rather than against it. ✨💖✨

And nature has always known the way.
