National Simultaneous Storytime is designed for young children, specifically aged 3 to 8 years old. It is a nationwide campaign aimed at promoting literacy, language development, and the love of books. Parents can check with their local library about attending a face-to-face story time event, or to watch the event online.

Ask your child some questions about the story starting with basic “What, who, when. what is it for & Where…?” questions and moving to more complex questions that require an explanation (e.g. Why..? Why can’t…? What will happen if..?, What would you do if…? What was wrong…?). [Please note a video of the book can be paused on the page for the question]

By 7-8 years your child should be able to answer all the questions, so please contact us if you are concerned about your child’s comprehension, ability to answer, speech clarity or conversation.

A strong link exists between the development of oral and mealtime skills and speech sound development. Please see more about documented link in the research below. Parents with babies and toddlers with mealtime issues who are also presenting with reduced babbling and word or phrase acquisition are therefore encouraged to contact us on 08 9301 4128 and [email protected] - this will allow us to offer early intervention and let parents know about other government services available for young children with these difficulties.

Parents with these needs are also encouraged to access the research study below by Curtin University which is being conducted by speech pathologists.

“Speech and language delay (SLD) is among the most common developmental disorders in early childhood and often co‐occurs with feeding and swallowing difficulties. Both speech and swallowing rely on shared neuromuscular and motor planning processes, suggesting a potential link between the two. Location et. al. (2026). It is never too late to improve a stutter and work on having stutter-free speech! We see young children, primary aged children, teenagers and adults who stutter.

We treat stuttering across the lifespan using evidenced based therapy which was developed and tested by the Australian Stuttering Research centre and universities.

Contact us on 08 9301 4128 and [email protected] to find out what a stuttering assessment involves. Our therapists can call you back to discuss any specific questions you have about therapy if you are unsure when or how to start the process (e.g. When to check if my child has a stutter?, What happens in therapy?).

What if we truly understood the experience of children who stutter? Help us find out!

Does your child (aged 7–12) stutter? Or maybe you’re a speech pathologist working with school-age children who stutter?

We’d love to invite you to be part of an exciting new research project at the Australian Stuttering Research Centre.

Some children who stutter experience unhelpful thoughts about their speech, which can lead to speech-related anxiety. We’re developing a simple new tool to identify these thoughts early—so the right support can be put in place during the school years.

🧒 Who can take part?
Children who stutter aged 7 to 12 years.

💻 What’s involved?
A short online survey, completed from home, at your child’s own pace.

By taking part, you’ll help us create a quick, meaningful way to understand and support the experiences of children who stutter.
