What does a Functional Capacity Assessment explore?

An FCA looks at how a person manages everyday activities, including communication, personal care, daily living, mobility, social participation, learning, decision-making and support needs.

It helps build a detailed picture of what is working well, where challenges exist and which supports may increase independence and participation.

💚 Not all disabilities are visible.

This Invisible Disabilities Week, we’re reminding our community that you can’t understand someone’s support needs just by looking at them.

You might see someone smiling, working, shopping or spending time with friends. What you might not see is the effort, planning, pain, fatigue or support involved in getting through their day.

Comments like “but you don’t look disabled” can leave people feeling dismissed or pressured to explain personal information.

At Advanced Behaviour Support Services, we believe support starts with listening, respecting each person’s experience and asking what would help.

A little more patience. Clearer communication. Flexibility when someone needs it. These everyday actions can make our communities more inclusive.

💚 You don’t need to see someone’s disability to respect their needs.

Participants may have family, friends, support workers, practitioners, educators, health professionals and service providers around them. Clear communication and shared goals help this team work together while keeping the participant at the centre of every decision.

School holiday fun at Advanced Behaviour Support Services! 🍕🎨☀️

From pizza making, painting and games to mindfulness, movement and time to chill, our school holiday program offered plenty of opportunities to get creative, try something new and connect with others. 💜

Thank you to the children and families who joined us, and our wonderful team for helping make it all happen!

Community events can offer wonderful opportunities to explore interests, make choices, experience something new and enjoy meaningful time with others.
