——————————————————————-
In loving memory of Elizabeth Ann-Dieckmann (née Birks) who passed away peacefully on 3rd April 2026 (Good Friday), aged 78, on Kangaroo Island.
Born in Victor Harbor, South Australia, Elizabeth moved to Kangaroo Island at a young age with her family as part of the soldier settlers scheme. She grew up on the family farm “Bonnie Doon” at Karatta and formed a lifelong connection to the island and its community.
A devoted mother and an exceptional, decorated teacher, Elizabeth dedicated her life to education and to the children of Kangaroo Island. Teaching across all schools on the island, she shaped and inspired multiple generations. Her contribution to the community was profound - not only as an educator, but as a carer and nurturing presence in the lives of countless children. She will be remembered as a deeply committed and highly talented teacher who gave so much to those she taught and cared for.
Beloved mother of Rebecka, Matthew, Rachel, Amelia, and Martin, and mother-in-law to Kim, Brad, Craig, and Amber. Cherished “Bissey” to Rory, Ollie, Jacob, Izzy, Jasper, Thomas, Archie, Noah, Joshy, Heath, Tali (dec), and Eden. And surrogate family Trish and Gem.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband John, her parents Faye and Eric, and her siblings Robert and Barbara. She is survived by her sister Erica and her extended family.
The family sincerely thanks the carers, nurses, and doctors who supported and cared for Elizabeth during her illness and in her final days.
Known for her kindness and her love of looking after others, Elizabeth touched many lives, and her legacy will live on in the contributions she made to the community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Forever in our hearts
