Dinner time is a great learning time.
Allow your little people to "help".

🥕Talk about the names of the ingredients.
🔪🥄Let them chop and prep.
😀 Talk about colour's.

Allow tasting.

And most importantly thank them for their help and celebrate the meal you made together.

Today an amazing thing happened.
One of my beautiful little people, who has very strong food preferences, joined fruit break with the rest of the class.
He didn't eat any of the fruit. BUT he willingly held a piece of apple AND smelled an orange.
Small steps lead to new experiences.

Wait time is very important especially for children with special needs.

Give them time to process what you said, or what the instruction was before adding more information.

Just wait quietly.

Most children spend their days being managed.

Get up when parents need you to. Eat. Hurry. Sit still. Line up. Be quiet. Speak up. Try harder. Stop playing. Almost every hour shaped by adult instructions, adult expectations, and adult timelines.

Even “free time” often comes with conditions…scheduled, supervised, scripted.

When almost every moment is directed by someone else, child-led play becomes a rare and necessary act of selfhood.

In child-led play, children decide. They choose how to move, what to build, who to trust, when to risk, and when to walk away.
They learn resilience, planning, failure and success.

As adults sometimes we just need to be quiet and let them play.

Make learning fun.

Make learning fun.

Singing songs promotes learning.
Listening, following instructions, gross motor, fine motor and speech just to name a few.

Learning is fun.
Learning through play and movement is best.

👋 Playtime can be a super helpful way to encourage communication, sharing, risk taking and body awareness. Here are a couple of simple tips:

Be Present and Join In: Let your child lead the play. Jump into their world and follow what they're doing.
Role model taking turns, sharing and use words describing actions, naming objects and talk about feelings.

Listen and Respond: Even if it's just a sound or a point, show them you understand. Talk back, even if it's just repeating what they said or adding a simple word.

Remember, every little step counts! Playtime should be fun and relaxed.
