🏡✨ Welcome to one of our favourite little corners of The Little Cubbyhouse.

At first glance, you might see a cubby house, a play kitchen, a trampoline and a cosy space to explore.

We see something a little different.

We see children building confidence as they climb inside for imaginative adventures. We see new words being discovered during pretend play, friendships beginning to blossom, and big feelings finding a safe place to land. We see opportunities to problem-solve, connect, laugh and learn—because some of the most meaningful therapy happens when children feel relaxed enough to simply play.

Our clinic may now be a home-based business, but our vision hasn't changed.

A place where play comes first.
A place where connection comes before communication.
A place where every child is celebrated for exactly who they are.

Because to a child, this might just look like play...

But we know that through play, incredible things can happen. ✨🧸

🌏 International Day of Play 🌏

Tomorrow we celebrate something every child deserves: the right to play.

Play is far more than entertainment. It is a fundamental part of childhood and one of the most important ways children learn about themselves, others, and the world around them.

Play helps children develop the cognitive, social, emotional, and communication skills they need not only for school, but for life.

This year's International Day of Play also reminds us that not all children have equal access to safe places, time, and opportunities to play. Millions of children around the world face barriers that limit this essential part of childhood.

As parents, educators, therapists, and community members, we all have a role to play in protecting childhood by creating spaces where children feel safe, included, connected, and free to explore, imagine, and grow.

So tomorrow, we encourage you to make time for play. Build a fort. Read a story. Chase bubbles. Create an imaginary world. Follow your child's lead.

Because every playful moment is helping build the foundations for a thriving future. 💛

💛 A Special Book Project 💛

Last year, a friend asked me if I would write the words for a children's book she wanted to illustrate.

Now, in case you didn't know, writing children's books isn't normally my thing! I'm much more comfortable creating therapy resources and writing clinical reports.
But the idea behind the story was simple and close to my heart: celebrating all the little things we love about our children.

The way they run.
The way they laugh.
The way they smile.
The way they make our hearts feel full.

After a lot of hard work, patience, and creativity, my friend Candace has brought the story to life through her beautiful illustrations, and the book is currently under review for publication.
We're hopeful that it will be available on Amazon soon, and I couldn't be more excited to share a little sneak peek with you.

A huge congratulations to Candace Ranger (https://www.candaceranger.com/) on completing such a special project. Creating a book is no small feat, and I'm so proud to have been part of the journey.

✨ What is one little thing your child does that makes you smile every time?

🌈 Autism Awareness Month 🧩

Sometimes, when communication breaks down between autistic and non-autistic people, the responsibility is placed entirely on the autistic person — to adapt, to mask, to fit in.

The double empathy problem reminds us that communication is a two-way street.
It’s not that autistic people lack empathy — it’s that people with different communication styles can struggle to understand each other.

And that goes both ways.

Real inclusion means we don’t just expect autistic children to do all the adjusting.
It means we slow down, stay curious, and learn to meet them where they are.

When we adapt too, connection grows. ✨

🌈 Autism Awareness Month 🧩

Autistic children are so often expected to adapt to the world around them — to follow neurotypical rules, communicate in neurotypical ways, and cope in environments that weren’t designed with them in mind.

But inclusion isn’t one-sided.

At The Little Cubbyhouse, we believe connection happens when both sides are willing to learn.

When we slow down, stay curious, and open ourselves to different ways of communicating and being, we create space for children to feel safe, understood, and valued.

💛 It’s not about changing the child — it’s about changing the environment around them.
