Perimenopause often arrives at one of the busiest stages of life. Careers. Children. Relationships. Ageing parents. The mental load of keeping everything running.

At the same time, your body may be asking (screaming for?) for more support. More rest. More recovery. More nourishment. More boundaries.

While hormonal changes are a big part of the picture, perimenopause is also a turning point. A time to stop putting everyone else first and start valuing your own wellbeing more highly.

This is not selfish. It is necessary.

Many will spend a third or more of their lives beyond this transition. That is far too much life to settle for simply feeling okay.

Perimenopause is not just a hormonal transition, it is a reminder to start putting your health first.

We live in a time where we have more health information than ever before. And honestly, some of it is great. The problem is that health information for the masses can never account for you.

Your genetics.
Your nervous system.
Your lifestyle.
Your stress load.
Your sensory capacity.
Your environment.
Your history.
Your actual real-life limitations.

There’s no nuance in a 30 second reel. You can listen to 100 different people tell you the “best” diet, supplement, morning routine, or workout… Or end up on a 15 supplement stack generated by ChatGPT and still feel completely overwhelmed trying to figure out what actually applies to your body.

That’s where seeing someone like me, a holistic practitioner, is different. You’re sitting down with someone who is invested in trying to understand the whole picture of you.

I spend a lot of time trying to distill the noise and understand what’s actually driving your health concerns. The goal is to find the thing that’s going to move the needle for you.

Because health is nuanced.
People are nuanced.
And healing usually requires more depth than the internet can give you.

Because the algorithm is not taking your mineral status, trauma history, sensory capacity, and perimenopause into account.

Meet the human behind Rude Health.
I’m Amanda 👋

Weekday Amanda is in clinic. Friendly, fairly professional, and deeply invested in helping people understand what’s actually driving their health concerns.

Weekend Amanda is somewhere in the bush wearing questionable walking clothes and emotionally connecting with fungi.

Thanks to for helping me look somewhat professional 📷 🙏

What does your poo have to do with your future health? Quite a lot, actually.

Your digestive system is your body’s largest organ of elimination, helping clear what the body no longer needs. When waste sits in the bowel too long, it can be reabsorbed through the intestinal lining, influencing hormones, cholesterol, and overall inflammatory load.

Slow transit time and constipation have been linked with metabolic, inflammatory, and neurological conditions, largely due to that increased toxin load and reduced elimination.

And here’s the surprising part — you can still have slow transit time even if you’re going every day. It’s not just how often you go, but how long it takes to move through, from start to finish.

If you’re unsure where you sit, start with the basics. Fibre is one of the most effective ways to support healthy bowel motility and regular clearance. And if you’re ready to get a clearer picture of your gut health, reach out to learn more.

What if many of childhood gut, skin and immune issues start much earlier than we think?

I recently upskilled in the paediatric microbiome with the very clever Dr Brad Leech | Microbiome | Autoimmune. What it really highlighted is the gap in understanding when it comes to infant and child gut health. When it comes to the microbiome, children are not just little adults.

Their microbiome is constantly evolving, with distinct changes occurring as they grow. And that means treatment needs to reflect these nuances, not follow an adult model.

Early life plays a powerful role in shaping the gut and immune system. From birth and beyond, factors like feeding, environment, illness and medications all influence how the microbiome develops. These early patterns can have a lasting impact on immune resilience, skin health, and a child’s tendency towards things like allergies and eczema.

If you’re navigating gut, skin or immune concerns with your child, this is an area worth getting right early. Reach out or book a consultation to explore how we can support their health from the ground up.

The thing that really moves the needle?

It’s the boring stuff.
The hard stuff.
The doing-the-work stuff.

Making better decisions for yourself.
Getting up and moving your body.
Eating breakfast and prioritising protein.
Getting morning sunlight.
Giving yourself time to sit still and breathe, without constant distraction.
Drinking enough water.
Doing the things that help you manage your stress.
Saying no more.
Going to bed at the time you know you should.
Not doom scrolling into the evening.

You can’t supplement your way out of this.

No diet, protocol or regime can replace these foundations. Because giving your body and nervous system these small, consistent inputs is often the most effective form of treatment.

And when your nervous system feels safe and supported, we see the flow-on effects across energy, hormones, digestion and overall health.

This is where real change happens ✨

Ongoing bloating, reflux or abdominal pain are often signs that something deeper is going on.

It may point to:
• Low stomach acid
• SIBO or microbial imbalance
• Poor bile flow
• Sluggish intestinal motility
• Incomplete digestion

When we simply remove fibre or restrict foods long-term, symptoms might improve temporarily. But the underlying dysfunction often remains.

The goal isn’t lifelong restriction.
It’s restoring gut function so your body can tolerate and benefit from nourishing foods again.

Less restriction.
More resilience.
A gut that actually works.

If certain foods keep triggering symptoms, it may be time to look deeper rather than cut more foods out.

If this sounds familiar, and you’re ready to improve your gut function properly, you can book via the link in my bio.

Regular cycles are more important than you think. If your periods are irregular or absent, it’s your body waving a flag that something’s off 🚩

Low oestrogen affects more than just mood, it’s essential for building strong bones, especially in your teens and 20s.

Your body is designed for light ☀️

From sunrise to sunset, the spectrum of natural light acts as a daily timekeeper for your brain, hormones, metabolism, and mood.

For millions of years, humans rose and rested with the sun. Even women’s menstrual cycles once closely followed the lunar cycle — another rhythm guided by light.

When we spend more time indoors under artificial light, we drift away from these natural patterns. But stepping outside — morning, midday, and evening — reconnects us to the rhythm our biology still depends on.

Step outside daily. Let light tune your health the way it was always meant to.
