I am an Australian born islander from migrant parents of mauritius.
My traditions and rituals are Yoruba and voudun. I have learned from teachers in hoodoo rootwork from Louisiana, heart and reiki from Indonesia, and the elder teachers I currently walk with are from Zapotec/Olmec and Celtic lines and live in Hawaii who teach me through Hopi, Lakota and Aztec and moonwalker traditions.
I study and learn from my fellow students whose ancestral lines are from Serbia, Brazil, Peru, Poland, Scotland, Ireland, Croatia, England, Texas, and many other parts of turtle island.
So I am learning from a library of All.
There is not one way or one story
or one tradition
that I am finding that is
the “only way” of learning.
Each one who I weave with,
each class that I take,
each story that I share and listen
to weaves me more into a oneness.
Our common ground is our relationships.
with the land that we live in,
and our land (our Aina) within
We bring it all to the table.
We honour all parts of it.
We see each other and our stories.
We don’t forget what they have been,
but we listen and learn from our ancestors (who are also the land)
who have walked before us.
We see forgiveness and self love
in the land that shows us
how to know our oneness better.
This is how I learn.
And in turn, these are the teachings
that I put down for you
in your free will and choice to pick up.
