Seven years with the club flew by, and the many highlights included developing life long friendships and the 2017 championship.

It is safe to say that all future opportunities to work with the Australian Boomers, Kings and .sparks would not have been possible without the Flames.

Now that is the Flames Physiotherapy provider I am pumped to be back supporting these talented athletes and hard working coaches.

Hopefully it will provide the Zone 34 team similiar highlights, memories and opportunities that I have enjoyed.

Proud of this group of humans for locking in and getting the job done this NBL season.

Writing social media posts never comes easy to me, and always feels forced.

Putting up shiny images and saying everything is amazing hides so much of what goes on behind the scenes.

This season with the Sydney Kings was a roller coaster, and provided challenges that tested my resolve. COVID protocols, changing schedules and the impact on Zone 34 Sports Physiotherapy was draining.

Unfortunate and sometimes significant injuries kept coming from pre season until the Grand Final series.

Not to mention a well overdue realisation that burn out is a real danger if work, life and family aren't kept in proportion.

Reflecting over the last 36 hours, what hits home is that it remains an honour to share the journey with athletes and staff who give their all for a common goal.

Individual games don't stand out in my memory bank. Relationships with people do though.

From time spent in the gym with an athlete who is grinding through rehab, to a sneaky dinner and wine with a coach on the road. These are the moments that will stay with me.

Winning at home and sharing the experience with family and friends was a cool experience, in particular having the girls on the court for the presentation. Families sacrifice a lot for loved ones to work in pro sport, and the acknowledging their contribution to the team was appreciated.

Finally, thanks for having my back both at and the Kings. Feel fortunate to share the ride with you. Trophies are cool People are better

Chronic Ankle Instability

Up to 40% of of people who sustain their first lateral ankle sprain develop Chronic Ankle Instability (CAI) within 1 year!

There are two key interventions to significantly reduce the risk...

Ankle Tape or Brace. Studies have shown that both are equally as effective, and can reduce the risk of repeat injury by up to 62%. The choice of tape vs brace is up to the individual. Benefits of bracing includes the convenience, no skin irritation, and being cost effective in the long term.

Professional players typically tape. After all teams supply the tape, and staff help apply it.

Neuromuscular (think balance, stability and landing exercises) have also been shown to be effective in reducing ankle sprains. Note the key finding for the research of the cumulative number of minutes required to get a protective benefit. My experience is the only way to achieve this is to built in a Injury Risk Reduction program into all court and gym sessions, and create a habit.

The emotion in this change room will live with me for a long, long time.

Belting out the team song with such a tight mob was a cathartic experience.

It is a privilige to be part of the .

Finger injuries are common in basketball. Typical buddy tape (where two fingers are taped together) is an excellent choice for stability and protection. However reducing the dexterity of the fingers can also reduce the feel and control of the ball when dribbling and shooting.

This check rein taping is an alternative option for PIP and MCP joint injuries, allowing better grip and control of the ball. There are obvious reductions in stability so athletes will need to weigh up the balance betwen performance and protection.

Finger injuries are often considered to be minor by players and coaches. Fractures and tendon injuries can get overlooked as just a sprain. Collateral (UCL, RCL) and volar plate sprains should also be managed well to speed up recovery and maximise long term outcomes.

For any new injuries seek assessment from a Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist, Hand Therapist, or Sports and Exercise Doctor. X-Ray's or imaging may be need to screen for significant injuries.
