A Mystery solved by the Genealogical Society.
About a month ago a member handed in a small folder with a WW11 Defence medal plus two small photos of young boys and a card with the name of the town where they were born. There were the names of the boys on the back of one photo, Fred, George, Jack, and Ted.
The folder was found at a local Op-Shop.
I tried to find which one of the boys owned the medal. No success. Using the Fold3 Site I found via the county in England a possible connection of the surname. A Family Tree was on Ancestry with the boys’ names on but not all the names were correct. Jack was Maurice Arthur George and Ted was Harold Edwin.
I messaged the person who placed the Family Tree on Ancestry with all the information I had and I received an interesting reply. The contact person who lives in England wrote to say that all the contents of the folder belonged to her husband’s family and his uncle lived in West Mackay. What a surprise!!!
I went to visit the uncle and aunt and gave them the folder. They were over the moon. They don’t know how the folder with the medal and photos could have been at the Op-Shop as they were the only relatives of the boys living in Mackay.
I received a lovely message from the contact person, thanking me for saving and forwarding the folder to the family.
Mystery solved.
