The Men Spirit Helping men navigate crisis, build resilience & find authentic masculinity. Mentoring | Community | Workshops
Melbourne-based, Online Globally. themenspirit.com

For the past two decades, I have dedicated my career to the area of healthcare, spanning in both Greece and Australia. Following my nursing education and service in the medical corps in Greece, fate led me to Australia in 2001, a place I proudly call home. Throughout my journey, my commitment to holistic care has been a guiding force in my professional adventures. I've had the privilege of working across various domains of healthcare, from acute settings to community care, serving as a registered nurse and care coordinator. Over the course of the last 13 years, I've had the honor of caring for some of the most vulnerable and complex individuals in our society. This invaluable experience has not only enriched my clinical expertise but has also fostered profound personal growth, shaping me into a more compassionate and empathetic healthcare provider. Like many, I've navigated my own share of hardships, including experiences of grief and loss, as well as struggles with my own emotional well-being. However, through introspection and self-discovery, I've emerged from these challenges with a newfound strength, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for life. This inner journey has reignited my sense of self-love, leaving me feeling stronger, healthier, and more determined than ever before. Now, I recognize that it's my time to give back—to share the love and gratitude that fills my heart with those in need. I am driven by a profound sense of purpose, eager to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Kosta Michalopoulos, RN, RCT

Sometimes we get so used to carrying things on our own that we forget we can let someone in.

A conversation. A listening ear. A space where you don’t have to pretend everything is fine.

Real connection starts when we allow ourselves to be seen as we are.

Sometimes the person who notices first isn’t a healthcare professional.

It might be a friend.
A colleague.
A family member.
A community worker.
A manager.

If you’ve had a conversation with a man about seeking support, you can help connect him with The Men Spirit through our referral pathway—with his consent.

Because meaningful support can start with simply noticing and reaching out.

A simple conversation can mean more than we realise.

You don’t always need the right words or a solution. Sometimes, being present and genuinely listening is enough.

Check in with the men around you. You never know what someone might be carrying quietly.

Start the conversation. A genuine check-in could be the first step toward connection.

Strength doesn’t always mean having everything under control.

Sometimes strength looks like honesty. Asking for support. Admitting you’re struggling. Making space for emotions instead of pushing them away.

There’s no single way to be a man. And there’s strength in finding a version of masculinity that feels honest to you.

At The Men Spirit, we believe support works best when it starts with trust.

That’s why we accept warm referrals only.

This means speaking with the man first, helping him understand what we offer, and getting his consent before sharing his details.

Because being referred should never mean being passed around.

It should mean being included in the conversation about what support feels right for him.

Men’s wellbeing cannot be carried by one question or one day of the year.

For many men, “I’m fine” can be an automatic answer. Not because nothing is happening, but because they may not have the words, the trust or the space to say what they are carrying.

Compassion for men, accountability from men.

Supporting men means making room for honest conversation, connection and community. It also means being clear that understanding pain does not excuse harm. Real support helps men take responsibility for their choices, their relationships and their impact.

We’re often taught to keep going, push through and figure things out on our own.

But being honest about what you’re feeling doesn’t make you less capable. It makes you human.

You don’t have to have all the answers. Sometimes, the first step is simply admitting that something is difficult.

You don’t have to figure it all out alone. Reach out and take the first step with The Men Spirit.

Many men have been taught to keep it together.

To suppress emotion.
To carry the pressure alone.
To measure their worth by what they achieve, how much they can handle, or how much control they have.

And after a while, these things can start to feel normal.

But what happens when we stop and ask:

Who taught me this?
What am I still carrying?
What do I want to do differently?

Understanding where these expectations come from isn’t about excusing harmful behaviour. It’s about getting honest about what shaped us.

Because awareness gives us a choice.

A choice to respond differently.
To take responsibility.
To build relationships differently.
To create a way of being a man that feels more honest, connected and whole.

What’s one expectation about being a man that you’re questioning?
