Residents from Regis Kingswood, Regis Marleston, Regis Playford and Regis Burnside in South Australia recently came together for a special day out on Adelaide’s iconic Popeye, cruising along the River Torrens and taking in the city from a different perspective.

“Being able to see an area of Adelaide not otherwise able to be seen was really enjoyable,” said Janet, a resident at Regis Kingswood. “Just slowly motoring along was so peaceful.”

Moments like these help keep residents connected to their community and continuing to enjoy the places that hold meaning, with the reassurance they are supported every step of the way.

Sharon has always done things her own way.

Before moving into Regis Marleston in Adelaide, she created a life centered around the things she loves, especially music, and that hasn’t changed.

Now, living at Regis Marleston, she enjoys performances and keeping up with visiting entertainers.

“It’s my whole life,” she shared about her love of music.

At Regis, we're committed to supporting residents to continue to live their lives how they want to, with the care and support they need around them.

We are so proud to see this special partnership between Regis Lutwyche and Wooloowin State School recognised with a Community Partnership Award at the P&C Awards Queensland.

In 2020, when COVID lockdowns meant many residents were unable to see loved ones, students began writing letters and drawing pictures for the residents of Regis Lutwyche. What started as a simple act of kindness soon grew into regular visits and lasting friendships between generations. Today, the school visits the Home once a month, and the partnership is an excellent example of the role community plays in wellbeing for both residents and students. It gives residents the opportunity to contribute to the lives of younger generations while students build relationships with older people outside their own families and learn lessons they may not otherwise experience.

A wonderful achievement and a testament to everyone who has helped shape this special partnership over the years. Congratulations to Wooloowin State School and Regis Lutwyche on this well deserved recognition.

Our incredible Regis Gatton resident Marie Kirkby was honoured over the weekend at the Queensland Day Awards, where she received a Local Legend Award in recognition of her contribution to the community.

At 105, Marie is believed to be the oldest living World War II veteran and continues to inspire those around her through her generosity, including knitting sweaters for penguins in need.

A remarkable achievement for a truly remarkable woman. Congratulations Marie!

Recently at Regis Port Coogee in Western Australia, residents and families came together for Cultural Diversity Day, moving between shared tables, homemade dishes and colourful displays as stories of culture, tradition and identity were shared throughout the Home.

Together, the day reflected the many cultures that shape the Home, including Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, India, China, Italy and South Africa.

“I never realised there were so many different cultures around me. It was such a beautiful experience learning about everyone’s backgrounds, traditions and stories.” shared resident Glenda.

For family members, it was a chance to spend time together while also being part of the wider community their loved ones call home.

At Regis Chelmer in Queensland, the Biggest Morning Tea was a chance to come together, share stories and support one another.

Residents, team members and families were joined by residents from neighbouring homes Regis Yeronga, Regis Holland Park, Regis The Gap and Regis Salisbury, with conversations shaped by personal experiences, including Regis Chelmer resident Beverley sharing her journey with breast cancer.

“I wanted to encourage open conversations about cancer and let others know they’re not alone,” Beverley said. “If sharing my experience can offer even a little hope or connection to someone going through something similar, then it’s worth it. It’s also so important for women not to be afraid to get checked.”

A guest speaker from Cancer Council also shared practical information about support and early detection.

It was a reminder of how many lives are touched by cancer, and how important it is to have space to share and feel supported.

At Regis, we know how important meals are in bringing people together.

That is why, on the last Wednesday of each month, our Homes now host a Chef’s Table. These themed dining experiences are shaped by both our chefs and resident feedback, making them personal to each Home.

This month, residents explored themes including French, Japanese, pub meals and even an under the sea experience.

Chef’s Table is also a chance for residents and chefs to spend more time together, share stories and talk about the food they love, helping shape future menus along the way.

Residents at Regis Greenmount in Western Australia have seen their creativity take to the international stage, with a handmade dress they crafted from recycled materials showcased on the runway at Eco Fashion Week in Vancouver, Canada.

Over eight weeks, a group of residents met twice a week to design and create the garment from scratch, using materials sourced from around the Home.

Inspired by Australia’s unique wildlife and cultural heritage, the group incorporated a goanna into the design, creating a distinctly Australian entry for the international event.

Resident Ann, a former seamstress, played an important role in the project.

“Creating this dress together showed us that fashion can be creative and sustainable,” she said. “We used what we had, shared ideas and made something we are all proud of.”

The dress was warmly received on the international stage, with strong interest in both the design and the story behind it.

At Regis Burnside in South Australia, Maggie is known for the relationships she builds with residents every day.

As a Lifestyle Assistant, she spends time getting to know each person, their stories and what matters to them, helping them feel comfortable and at home.

“You learn so much about people and their histories,” she said. “I’m always in awe of what they’ve done.”

For Maggie, her role is about taking the time to listen and creating moments of connection that shape how residents experience their day.

Her approach reflects how care at Regis Burnside goes beyond daily support, it is about people who take the time to understand everyone around them.

Stuart, a resident at Regis East Malvern in Victoria, loves art and has always been creative. His artistic journey began with sketching portraits, which led him to mosaics and eventually to sculpting.

Moving into aged care hasn’t stopped Stuart from showcasing his art, with Regis Malvern recently proud to exhibit his pieces for other residents, families and visitors to enjoy.

Stuart says he loved seeing people’s reactions and was pleased that residents and team members came to appreciate his work.

His advice for anyone wanting to try sculpting is simple: “Just give it a go and expect it to take time. It’s a hands-on task.”
