Achilles pain can be incredibly frustrating, especially if you enjoy running, walking or staying active.
One simple exercise we often prescribe in the early stages of Achilles tendinopathy is an isometric calf hold.
Why?
Holding a calf raise for 30-45 seconds places a steady load through the Achilles tendon. This can:
β’ Improve blood flow to the surrounding muscles and tissues.
β’ Help reduce pain by calming the nervous system.
β’ Begin loading the tendon without the repeated movement that can sometimes aggravate symptoms.
β’ Build confidence before progressing to heavier strengthening exercises.
Remember, an isometric hold isn't designed to "fix" the tendon on its own. It's one part of a progressive rehabilitation program that gradually restores the tendon's capacity to tolerate everyday activities, running and sport.
At Melbourne City Osteopathy, we'll assess why your Achilles has become painful, provide hands-on treatment to improve mobility where needed, and develop a rehabilitation program that's tailored to your goals.
Achilles pain doesn't have to become a long-term problem. The earlier it's managed, the better the outcome.
