🌈 April Group Dates Announced 🌈

Our current round has just begun (you might have seen our Week 1 post!) and we’re already looking ahead to the next intake.

The next Autistic Adult Group Program will start on: Monday 20 April 2026 6:00–8:00pm (6 weeks). This is an in-person program held in Fitzroy with a small group of 4–6 participants.

If you’ve been following along and thinking, “Maybe the next one…”, this could be a good time to plan ahead.

As always, we welcome both formally diagnosed and self-identified autistic adults.

Week 1 is underway! 🥳

We’ve started a new round of our group program, and it was lovely to begin the first session this week.

Here’s a peek at our freshly printed workbooks designed to support reflection between sessions and help participants keep track of what feels most meaningful to them.

Autistic Adult Group Program — February 2026 intake now open 🥳

We’re opening enrolments for our next 6-week, in-person program for autistic adults in Fitzroy.Group size is intentionally small (4–6 people) so there’s room for everyone.

Might be a good fit if:

you’re late-diagnosed or self-identified and want a space to make sense of things

sensory overwhelm is common, or you’re still learning your interoceptive cues

you’re seeking gentler ways to regulate emotions and reduce social exhaustion

you want to explore masking/unmasking and communication differences without judgement

you value connecting with autistic peers in a small, supportive group

No formal diagnosis required — we welcome both formally diagnosed and self-identified autistic adults.

🥳 Final Session — Closing Reflections 🥳

We wrapped up this round of our Autistic Adult Group Program. We began by creating space to consolidate key ideas and sharing a few additional details to round things out.

As facilitators, we offered personal letters to each participant, noting observations from their participation and options to consider beyond the group.

Once again, this closing session reminded us of the distinct strengths of group therapy alongside individual work—how experiential learning can come alive in the room, and how shared experiences can enrich learning and invite consideration of everyday contexts.

We’re grateful for the safe, thoughtful atmosphere that developed across the program, and for the gentle care everyone brought to the space.

🌟Week 5 — Identity🌟

This evening’s session offered space for heartfelt conversation about identity. We kept a gentle focus on self-understanding, how personal values can guide everyday choices, and considerations around masking and unmasking in different contexts (including friendships).

There was a strong sense of resonance as these ideas were explored together. We’re grateful for the thoughtful atmosphere that continues to develop as the program progresses. 🥳

✨ Exciting news: we’re now recruiting for our November intake! ✨

We’re two psychologists in Fitzroy running a small, neuro-affirming therapy group for autistic adults — an in-person space to explore sensory & interoceptive awareness, emotion regulation, communication preferences, identity/masking, and peer connection at a pace that feels safe.

We’re honoured to be running it for the 4th time this year.

🌈 Week 4 — Social Communication and Experiences 🌈

This evening, our group explored social communication through a Double Empathy lens — recognising that differences are two-way, and that mutual understanding grows when both sides are curious and open.

The conversation was thoughtful and resonant. An experiential activity supported self-awareness and offered a considered opportunity to receive genuine feedback in a supportive space. Together, these highlighted shared communication preferences while also making room for individual experiences.

🌈 Week 3 — Understanding and Regulating Emotions 🌈

This week, our group explored how emotions can show up in different ways — sometimes arriving later, or all at once and intensely. We reflected on the challenges of differentiating between emotions, especially when past experiences add extra layers of complexity.

Amid these reflections, there was also an appreciation for the joy and depth that can come from feeling things deeply. We introduced a practical regulation skill, and reflected on how connection with trusted people can support emotional balance and self-acceptance.

✨Week 2 of our Autistic Adult Group Program ✨

In this week’s session, we turned our attention to sensory preferences, with a particular focus on interoceptive awareness — the ability to notice and interpret the body’s internal signals.

The reflections highlighted how layered and nuanced sensory experiences can be, and how valuable it is to explore these themes in a supportive space. These conversations are laying a rich foundation for the weeks ahead, as we continue to explore emotions, identity, self-understanding, and connection.

🌈 Our September Autistic Adult Group Program has begun! 🌈

This evening we welcomed our new group for the first session of our 6-week program in Fitzroy. It was a warm start — setting up the space, getting to know one another, and beginning to lay the foundations for our goals together.

We’re so grateful to be sharing this journey over the coming weeks.

If you missed out on this round, we’ll be running more groups in the future — you can read more or register your interest here: https://www.yanyangpsychology.com.au/grouptherapyprogram
