A low PVA isn’t always a rebooking problem.

Sometimes, it’s a session one problem.

If your PVA is sitting around 3–4, it’s worth looking at what patients are actually experiencing in those first few appointments.

Are we giving too much information too soon?
Is the plan clear?
Do they understand why they need to come back?

Because when patients leave overwhelmed or unclear on the next step, that can show up in your numbers.

PVA Deep Dive: Part 1 looks at what your Patient Visit Average might really be telling you — and where to start looking.

The emotional side of pelvic health isn't something we talk about enough.

Not the clinical complexity.

The emotional complexity.

The sessions that stay with you.

The birth stories you replay on the drive home.

The moments when you're caring deeply for everyone else and forgetting to check in with yourself.

This week's blog is about compassion fatigue in pelvic health physiotherapy—why it happens, how to recognise it, and why acknowledging it doesn't make you a weaker clinician.

When you're looking for a women's health mentor, it's easy to start with one question:

"Who's the most experienced?"

Yes. Experience matters...

But being an excellent clinician and being a great mentor are two different skill sets. The best mentors don't just give you answers - they help you develop the clinical reasoning to find them yourself.

Look for someone who:
• Coaches, not just answers.
• Helps you build confidence, not dependence.
• Supports your communication skills as well as your clinical skills.
• Understands the realities of growing a caseload and working in practice—not just treating patients.

The right mentor won't just make you better at women's health physiotherapy.

They'll help shape the clinician you become.

When was the last time someone actually watched your VE, PR or POP assessment technique and gave you real feedback?

Not a refresher video. Not a slide deck. Real eyes on what you’re doing.

For many physios, that kind of feedback disappears once formal training ends - even though these skills matter even more when you’re managing complex caseloads independently.

That’s what Recalibrate is for.

Recalibrate is a half-day, small-group clinical skills session covering:

• VE refresher
• PR refresher
• POP assessment refresher

You’ll receive practical feedback from mentors who have taught these skills across university, hospital, private practice and professional course settings.

Monday 12 October, 9am–1pm
2 Coxs Garden, Williamstown

$349 per person
$249 for current PPPM members

Places are capped at 12, so everyone gets genuine hands-on time and individual feedback.

Thinking about adding a pelvic health service to your clinic?

The equipment checklist is a great start. But before you go further, there are some questions worth asking.

Do you have genuine demand or are you following a trend? Is your space actually set up for this kind of care? Do you have the right staff, and crucially, can you keep them?

Our latest blog covers all of it. Practical, no-nonsense, and written for clinic owners who want to build something sustainable rather than just launch something fast.

If you are mentoring your own pelvic health team, you already know it is not quite working the way you hoped.

Not because you are not capable. But because mentoring is a different skill from clinical expertise. And because it is happening in the gaps, not in a structure designed to actually develop someone.

Our latest blog covers the real cost of keeping mentoring in-house, including what it does to your senior clinician's time, your KPIs, and your retention.

Two weeks of tutoring complete.✅

Bec, Liz and Karina just wrapped up the practical intensive block for the Postgraduate Certificate in Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne - and honestly, it's one of our favourite things we do each year.

What a group of tutors to work alongside. And to the students - it was wonderful to meet (and in some cases, reunite with) you all.

Pelvic health education at this level matters. The quality of this programme, and the clinicians coming through it, gives us a lot of confidence in where the profession is heading.

Proud to play a small part in it. 🙌

Maternity leave and the return from it is one of the most common times physios come to us at PPPM.

And it makes complete sense.

You might be dealing with a dip in clinical confidence after time away. You might be juggling childcare, a household that looks completely different now, and the mental load that comes with all of it. You might have used this time to go out on your own and now you're figuring out the business side while running on broken sleep.

Your perspective on certain presentations genuinely changes when you've had your own children. That can be a clinical asset. It can also be harder, particularly if your own birth was difficult.

And the fatigue is real. A graded return isn't a luxury. It's just good planning.
On the blog this week we've written the honest version of what this transition looks like and what good support during it actually means.

The rebooking conversation doesn't have to feel salesy.

But for a lot of pelvic health physios, it does.

And the reason is usually not a personality thing or a confidence thing.

It's a clarity thing.

When your clinical plan is clear, when you know why this patient needs to come back weekly for the next six weeks and you can explain it in plain language, the rebooking conversation isn't a sales pitch. It's just the next step in the plan.

The discomfort shows up when the reasoning isn't fully formed. When you're not quite sure how to justify the frequency. When you hedge instead of recommend.

On the blog this week we've written the practical version of how to shift this, including the specific language that helps and what to do when patients push back.
