One strength day and one rest rule. The whole week in two slides.

The four-lift day: squat, bench, row, Romanian deadlift, every set stopped with three reps left in you. The rest rule: three to five minutes on the main lift, two minutes on the heavy lifts and ninety seconds on the rest when you are short on time.

Screenshot the routine slide and use Import workout in BLES to bring it into your own app. Free for your first week.

The number nobody writes on the whiteboard: rest.

Every set on this week's strength day comes with its rest written next to it. Two minutes on squat and bench, ninety seconds on row and Romanian deadlift. The lifts get the attention. The rest decides whether the fourth set looks like the first.

Timer, not feel. Your phone can count while you breathe.

Rest is the most underestimated number in a strength program.

For most people the research says three to five minutes on the main lift, over two minutes once you are past your first months, and sixty to 120 seconds when you are new to it. Short on time? Two minutes on the heavy lifts and ninety seconds on the rest, which is how this week's four-lift day is written.

Set a timer and stop resting by feel. BLES times it for you, with an audio cue.

How long do you rest between heavy sets, honestly?

A strength day you can run with no coach watching.

Four lifts: squat, bench, row, Romanian deadlift. Four sets of five on the squat, the rest at six to eight reps, two minutes between the heavy sets. Every set stops with three reps left in you.

The whole thing is about 50 minutes including warm-up. Screenshot the last slide and use Import workout in BLES to bring it into your own app.

Your lifting app doesn’t know you ran today.

BLES was built because your lifts lived in one app, your runs in another and your food in a third. None of them talked to each other, so none of them could actually coach you.

BLES is one app for the whole thing:
• log every set, rest timer included
• track runs and rides with GPS
• snap a photo of your meal and it logs itself

Sign up and it builds your first week from five questions. Free to download, no card needed, and every feature is unlocked for your first week.

It’s live on iOS and Android. Lift, run, or both? Tell us in the comments, and share this with whoever you train with.

The app told me to add 2.5 kg. All I gave it was how the last set felt.

Logged set one at RPE 6. It came back with 82.5 kg for set two, and a reason. That is the loop: you log what happened, it does the arithmetic you would skip.

Then the week keeps going. Photograph the plate and BLES reads the calories and macros, three scans a day, free. Put in 10.7 miles and the pace lands on the same profile as 106,029 kg of volume.

Log your weight and it charts the 6.4 kg you have put on since January. At the end of the month it grades energy, protein and carbs against the training you logged, and tells you where you are heavy.

Six screens, one week, one account. Three separate apps can each do a piece of this. None of them can see the other two.
Free on iOS and Android.
