𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 - 𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙏𝙧𝙪𝙩𝙝

This year's theme "𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵" honours the power of truth-telling, the sharing of knowledge across generations and the importance of telling our stories.

It celebrates the voices, stories and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities, recognises the importance of truth-telling as a foundation for identity, belonging and cultural strength, and honours the role of Elders and community in passing knowledge to the next generation.

This year, we celebrate children as the next generation of leaders; confident, proud and ready to carry forward the strong voices, stories and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities.

A national celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 is a day led by SNAICC – National Voice for our Children, the national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peak body representing children, young people and families, and is an opportunity for all Australians to recognise and celebrate the strength, pride and potential of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

Merri-bek City Council need your vote!

Two park upgrade ideas for 𝗔𝗧𝗖 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗼𝘆 and for 𝗚𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗼𝘆 𝗖𝗦𝗟 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗸 have made it through to the public voting stage of the Victorian Government’s Pick My Park program, and MCC would love your support.

If they are successful, they will be able to:

- Upgrade 𝗔𝗧𝗖 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗼𝘆 with a futsal and basketball court as well as improved amenities to create a safer, more active space for everyone.

- provide 𝗚𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗼𝘆 𝗖𝗦𝗟 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗸 with new paths and easier access so everyone can explore the lake and reserve, more seating, spaces for fitness and nature play.

𝗞𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗢𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗱) 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 - 𝘼𝙪𝙜𝙪𝙨𝙩

The First Peoples of the Eastern Kulin Nation, including the Traditional Owners of this land, the Wurundjeri woiwurrung people, measure change with an annual cycle of seasons marked by changes in the land, animals, water and sky.

On this land there are seven annual seasons while two non-annual seasons, fire and flood, occur on average, every seven and 28 years.

Today marks the start of the 𝗚𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 season when the orchids begin flowering and the cold weather is ending. Caterpillars of the common brown butterfly eat grasses at night, silver wattles flower and koalas begin their noisy night-time mating rituals.

A day proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.

In a time when the noise of division grows louder, fuelled by wars, conflicts, inequality, and fear, friendship feels almost radical in its simplicity. It doesn’t arrive with fanfare or policy; it doesn’t need speeches or signatures. It begins with something quieter: a conversation, a shared moment, a willingness to see one another not as strangers but as fellow travellers through the human experience.

In this year’s observance, we’re reminded that real peace is forged not only in negotiation halls or by writing into treaties, but it’s also built, thread by thread, in the trust we extend to one another in daily life.
