What looks like play is actually purposeful therapy💛

we use Play-Doh to build hand strength, bilateral coordination, finger dexterity and pre-writing skills. By rolling, pinching, stretching and shaping the the dough, children are developing the foundational skills needed for every day tasks such as opening packets, managing buttons and zips, using cutlery and handwriting.

It’s been a busy week at EWU celebrating our recognition of being the national Allied Health leaders with our wonderful community. Our clinic space was decorated with balloons, treats for all, sensory toy lucky dips, a chance to hold the trophy, a community Champion Certificate and ringing of the champion bell! A wonderful community member also did the honours of sticking the winners sticker on our front door.

At EWU connecting with our community is a core value. Celebrations will continue through to next week, so next time your in, help yourself to a wonderful treat 🎉☺️

A message from our Director, Althea:

EWU FAM!! We did it!!

Winning the Allied Health Category at the Australian Small Business Champion Awards 2026 means so much.

Thank you to our community for trusting & teaching us. Every feedback both good & constructive is something we take on seriously and helps us grow & learn. It is truly a privilege to be part of your journey.

To our team, this is win is yours!!! Our team dedicates so much time to professional development in order to be the best clinicians for our community.

Lastly, i want to share one of the reasons why I started EWU.

Early in my career, I worked with an autistic boy who was labelled “naughty” and at risk of exclusion from his pre school due to concerns & unsafe behaviours. In our first session, this boy spat at me and ran from the room. Through my studies, I knew his behaviour was a form of communication and this boy wasn’t “naughty” he was misunderstood.

After years of therapy, learning about his overall sensory profile needs and advocacy, this same boy who was previously labelled as naughty went on to becoming his primary school captain.

This is why EWU exists.

Every child deserves to be understood, accepted, and supported to thrive and every parent, teacher and professional deserves a chance to be empowered and educated.

EWU will continue to learn and grow as an organisation to best serve our community and we do it because we care!!
