No child wakes up wanting to struggle. It’s rarely a lack of motivation or a child “just not wanting to”.

More often, it’s capacity. It’s overwhelm. It’s a nervous system saying, ✨ this is too much right now ✨

For some children, especially those who experience demand sensitivity, pressure doesn’t build skills, it blocks access to them. So instead of pushing harder, we get curious.

We look underneath what’s happening for the child, towards what they might be needing in that moment. Because what helps most usually isn’t more pressure.

It’s support that meets them where they are. Support that sees the nervous system, not just the behaviour.

From there, we can begin to reduce pressure, build safety, connection, and trust.
Because feeling safe is often where capacity begins 🥹

What actually helps:
👉 felt-safety
👉 playful connection

Bath toys aren’t just for fun, they can completely change how bath time feels 🛁

For many kids, getting into the bath is a big sensory and transition shift. That’s where play comes in…

Sensory toys:
⚪ give kids something to focus on
⚪ add predictability (pouring, squeezing, watching water)
⚪ lower pressure and make it feel safer
⚪lower pressure and make it feel safer

And often, that’s the difference between “I don’t want to get in” vs “Can I bring my toys?”

It’s not about the toy, it’s about helping your child feel ready for the experience.

Items featured: Whipped Shower Foam, Dinosaur Bath Bomb, Tiger Tribe Bath Crayons, Glow Pals light up cubes, Disco Light.

We’re now part of the global Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network! 🌻

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower symbol is a way of letting others know you have a disability, condition or chronic illness that isn’t immediately apparent.

If you see someone wearing the symbol, know they may need extra time, patience, or support. Together, let's promote understanding and respect.

It’s a simple yet effective way of communicating non-visible disability without explaining it whenever assistance is needed.

We often feel like we need to fix our child’s feelings as quickly as possible.

But emotions aren’t problems to solve away immediately. They’re waves. They rise, they peak, they pass. And what children need most in those moments is safety, support, and connection while they move through them.

Sometimes that looks like sitting nearby, saying less, or giving space while staying available. Other times it looks like helping to repair the problem, scaffolding the hard part, or working together to figure out what might help.

Some children need us to help hold the problem with them before they can move through it independently (co-regulation!).

And when everything in you wants to fix it, that makes sense too. It matters to them, so it matters to you.

You don’t have to take the feeling away immediately for your child to feel safe, supported, and okay.

This month’s favourite comes from Autism Level Up, developed by Dr. Amy Laurent and Dr. Jacquelyn Fede.

The tool helps children (and adults) notice:
🔸their current energy
🔸the energy needed for a task
🔸and whether those two things are a match

Because regulation isn’t about being calm, it’s about the match. One of the things we love most? It doesn’t rely on emotion words.

For many children, especially autistic children, “how are you feeling?” can be hard to answer. But “what is your energy like?” That’s something they can often connect with. It’s also incredibly adaptable.

We can shape it around a child’s interests, cars, Minecraft, songs, gaming, colours… anything that makes it meaningful to them.

Which means it’s far more likely to be used when it actually matters. The goal isn’t to stay in one perfect state. It’s to understand your energy, and what helps when things don’t match.

You can access the energy meters here:

Friendships can be beautiful… and messy.

When things go wrong, it’s easy to focus on behaviour. But underneath? There’s often overwhelm, fear, or feeling left out.

Here’s how to support your child through those moments with empathy, not shame.
