"I DIDN'T WANT MY LIFE TO END. I WANTED THE PAIN TO END” 😞

In 2018, I attempted su***de🎗️

I looked at that moment as something that was wrong with me. Today, I understand it differently. I understand myself differently. I understand that the person I am today didn't suddenly appear in adulthood.

Our childhood sets us up in life, for the good and the bad. My father left when I was a baby. My mother was a s*x worker and rarely present in my life, and when she was, there was emotional and physical abuse from her and my stepfather. I grew up without the safety, stability and unconditional love that every child deserves.

And I adapted. That's what children do 🙏🏻

As an adult, I've come to understand that I'm neurodivergent. I live with ADHD, Complex PTSD, depression and anxiety. My journey has also included bulimia, addiction, self-harm and suicidal ideation.

For much of my life, I didn't understand why my mind worked the way it did. I just thought I wasn't very good at being human.

But I've learned our story matters ❤️

Research has found that people with ADHD have around 3.5 times the odds of experiencing suicidal ideation and around 2.4 times the odds of attempting su***de compared with people without ADHD. Research has also found that childhood emotional and physical abuse are each associated with roughly 2.5 times the odds of attempting su***de in adulthood, with particularly high risk associated with complex childhood abuse.

These numbers don't predict what will happen to me and they shouldn't be added together to create some frightening personal statistic. They simply provide context.

They helped me realise that perhaps the better question wasn't “What's wrong with me?” but “What happened to me and what did my mind have to learn to survive?". This perspective has been enormous.

I still experience suicidal thoughts.
I still become overwhelmed.
I still have days when the world feels unbearably heavy.

So today, I don't want to tell someone who is struggling that “everything will be okay.” I'll simply say "Let's give tomorrow the opportunity to be different from today" ❤️

For Jan ❤️

Today was Jan’s funeral, and being away in Queensland meant I couldn’t be there in person to say goodbye 😔

But I wanted to take a moment to honour a truly beautiful woman who became such a special part of The Mind Cafe and, personally, a very special part of my life ❤️

Jan had shared an extraordinary bond with her partner. When he passed away, the grief she carried was enormous. Life became incredibly difficult without the person she loved so deeply 😔

And that was when something as simple as a hug became so important...

Jan would come into The Mind Cafe and, whenever I saw her, there would be a massive hug waiting ❤️

Sometimes there weren’t any words needed...
Just a hug 🤗
Just connection ❤️
Just another human being reminding you that you weren’t alone in that moment 🙏🏻

I came to understand that those hugs meant something to Jan, but I hope she knew how much they meant to me too ❤️

She reminded me of something I will carry forever: we never really know how important the smallest moments of human connection can be to someone who is struggling to keep going ❤️

A conversation. A coffee. Sitting beside someone. Remembering their name ❤️

Or simply wrapping your arms around them and holding on for a little longer 🤗

Jan, I hope wherever this beautiful and mysterious journey takes us, you have found your way back to the person you missed so terribly ❤️

Thank you for every hug, every visit and for trusting The Mind Cafe to be one of the places where you could come when life felt heavy ❤️

You were loved ❤️
You mattered ❤️
And you will be remembered ❤️

Rest peacefully, beautiful Jan ❤️

One final massive hug from me 🤗❤️

Hacky Sac your Blues Away 🌿

Sometimes the hardest part of feeling low is simply getting out of the house ❤️‍🩹

So let's make it easy...

This Friday, we're starting something simple called Hacky Sac your Blues Away 🤗

📅 Friday 7 August
🕚 11:00am
📍 Walter Gors Park (next to Exercise Alley)

This isn't about being good at hacky sac ☺️

It's about:
💚 Getting outside
💚 Meeting kind people
💚 Sharing a laugh
💚 Moving a little
💚 Remembering that you don't have to go through tough times alone.

Whether you've played for years or have never kicked a hacky sac before, everyone is welcome. There is absolutely zero pressure, zero expectations, and no judgement ❤️

If you're having a tough week, feeling isolated, or simply want some good company, we'd love to see you 🙏🏻

Feel free to bring a drink, some snacks or lunch, a chair or picnic rug if you'd like, and of course a hacky sack if you have one (I'll have a few to share too!).

Sometimes healing doesn't begin with finding all the answers ❤️

Sometimes it begins with simply showing up ❤️

Everyone is welcome ❤️

Calling wonderful business owners on The Northern beaches ❤️

Our wonderful friends at Premiere Care, a disability support organisation, are looking for local businesses across Sydney's Northern Beaches that might be interested in welcoming a person living with a disability into their workplace 🥰

It could be a café, retail store, office, community organisation, nursery, workshop, or almost anywhere that values kindness and inclusion 🙏🏻

The idea is simple:
💚 A participant can help with tasks that suit your workplace
💚 A dedicated support worker will always be present
💚 It can start as a no-pressure trial, giving both you and the participant the opportunity to see if it's the right fit

At The Mind Cafe, we saw firsthand how meaningful these opportunities can be ❤️

💜 Confidence grows
💜 New skills are learned
💜 Friendships are formed

And workplaces often discover that inclusion enriches everyone involved 🥰

If you've ever thought, "I'd love to help, but I'm not sure how," this could be the perfect place to start ☺️

If you own a business, or know someone who does, and would like to learn more, please leave a comment below or send us a message 🙏🏻

We'd love to connect you with the amazing team at Premiere Care ❤️

Together, we can create a more inclusive Northern Beaches, one opportunity at a time. 💚

WEIRDO. AND I'M FINALLY PROUD OF IT ❤️

For most of my life, I genuinely believed everyone's mind worked the way mine does 🤔

I thought everyone felt emotions this deeply ❤️
I thought everyone constantly analysed conversations ❤️
I thought everyone questioned themselves, overthought, cared so much about people, and wanted to make the world just a little kinder ❤️

I honestly believed people simply wore different masks depending on the situation 🤔

Over the past 18 months, my world has been turned upside down 😥

There has been heartbreak, bankruptcy, losing The Mind Cafe, living with mental health challenges, being admitted to hospital, learning to live on the Disability Support Pension, and trying to rebuild life from the ground up 😔

I wouldn't wish that journey on anyone 😓

But hidden within all of that pain has been something unexpected...

I've started learning who I actually am 💪🏻

I've learned that my brain doesn't work like many other people's. That the way I see the world, the way I care, the way I connect with people, the way I become overwhelmed, the way I throw myself into purpose... isn't "normal." ❤️

For a while, that frightened me 😰

Now, I'm beginning to see it differently...

Maybe I'm a weirdo ❤️

Maybe I always have been ❤️

And maybe... that's okay ❤️

Because being different helped create TrueFace.
It helped create The Mind Cafe.
It continues to inspire Be Kind Projects ❤️

It has allowed me to meet some of the most incredible human beings imaginable 🙏🏻

I'm still learning about myself. Some days are incredibly hard. Some days I still wish my mind would slow down 🙏🏻

But I'm also learning that different doesn't mean broken ❤️

It simply means our paths look different ❤️

So if you've ever been called weird...
💞 Too sensitive
💞 Too emotional
💞 Too much
💞 Too caring
💞 Too passionate

Maybe you don't need to become more like everyone else 💪🏻

Maybe the world simply needs more people who are brave enough to be themselves ❤️

Here's to us weirdos ❤️🙏🏻❤️💪🏻❤️

May we stop apologising for seeing the world differently 🙏🏻

And may we use those differences to leave this world a little kinder than we found it ❤️

When kindness inspires kindness❤️🌿

One of the greatest joys of starting The Mind Cafe was never building a café... it was helping plant seeds that would one day grow into something beautiful ❤️

Recently, Ana and I had the privilege of visiting The Hidden Garden Community Cafe in Gordon. It was incredibly special to see a community space that was inspired by The Mind Cafe, while growing into something uniquely its own ❤️

From the moment you walk through the doors, you can feel what they're trying to create. A wonderful place where people are welcomed, accepted, valued and reminded that they belong 🙏🏻

Their vision is simple but powerful:
💞 Everyone has a place.
💞 Everyone has something to offer.
💞 Everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect.

Whether you're young or old, living with a disability, from any culture, identity or background, The Hidden Garden Community Cafe strives to be a place where everyone feels safe and included 🥰

Meeting Karen, Diana and the wonderful volunteers reminded us why community matters so much. Places like this don't just serve coffee. They create connection, reduce isolation and remind people that they are seen ❤️

It made Guy's heart smile knowing that, even though The Mind Cafe has changed, its spirit continues to ripple outward in unexpected ways 🙏🏻❤️🥰

Thank you to everyone at The Hidden Garden Community Cafe for opening your hearts to your community. We wish you every success and hope your garden continues to grow for many years to come 🌿❤️

If you're ever in Gordon, drop in, enjoy a coffee, and support a café that's making a genuine difference in people's lives 🙏🏻

📍18 Cecil St Gordon, NSW

To everyone who has supported this page over the years... thank you ❤️

Sometimes I stop and look back at where this journey began, and it's hard to believe how much has changed 🙏

This page has never simply been about social media. It has been a reflection of my own mental health journey ❤

After my su***de attempt in 2018, I didn't know what my future looked like. I only knew that if I survived, I wanted my pain to mean something 🙏

That journey led to 'TrueFace' - a dream of creating a social media platform where people living with depression, anxiety, PTSD, suicidal thoughts, postnatal depression, body image challenges, addictions, and other mental health struggles could connect without fear of judgement. Although TrueFace never became what I imagined, it taught me something incredibly important...

🌻 People don't need perfection
🌻 People need connection
🌻 People need kindness
🌻 People need to know they aren't alone

That dream evolved into 'The Mind Cafe', then 'The Mind Cafe Community', where thousands of conversations, friendships, tears, laughs, coffees, hugs and moments of hope were shared ❤

Today, that journey continues through 'Be Kind Projects' ❤❤

The names have changed over the years, but the purpose never has🙏

🌻 To help people feel seen
🌻 To remind people they matter
🌻 To encourage kindness

Encouraging kindness as not as something we occasionally do, but as something we choose to become ❤

None of this would have been possible without you ❤🙏❤

Whether you've followed this page from the beginning... attended a group... shared a post... volunteered... donated... offered encouragement... or simply read something quietly when you needed it most... Thank you 🙏

You've reminded me, time and time again, that even during life's darkest moments, there are extraordinary people who continue choosing kindness ❤

I still have difficult days. My mental health journey didn't magically end. But because of this community, I've learned something beautiful 'Hope doesn't always arrive as a grand moment' 🙏

Sometimes it arrives as a comment... a message... a hug... a coffee... or simply someone saying, "I'm here." Thank you for walking this journey with me ❤❤❤

Here's to continuing to build a world where kindness is ordinary, where vulnerability is welcomed, and where nobody feels they have to face life alone 💪

From the bottom of my heart...

Thank you
❤️ Guy

To The Mind Cafe family,

Many of you have reached out asking how Ana and I are going 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

To be honest, it has been an incredibly difficult period 😥

As many of you know, The Mind Cafe was never just a café to us. It was built from lived experience, community, hope, and a belief that nobody should have to struggle alone ❤️

Following the recent liquidation of Not Just a Cafe PTY LTD, we are currently working through a number of matters involving property ownership, historical records, and the future of ideas and projects that were developed through The Mind Cafe over many years.

We are cooperating fully with the liquidator and are compiling documentation, photographs, social media records, receipts and other evidence relating to assets and intellectual property associated with our time operating The Mind Cafe.

We have also become aware of information suggesting that some items may no longer be at the premises, and we are currently seeking clarification regarding the location and status of those items.

At this stage, we are focused on facts, evidence and transparency.

We are not seeking conflict. We are simply seeking accountability and a fair process.

If any member of our community has experience in insolvency, employment matters, charity governance, intellectual property, asset recovery, or related legal fields, we would greatly appreciate a private conversation.

Most importantly, thank you ❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️

Many of you stood beside us through some of the hardest moments of our lives. Your support carried us through my mental health challenges, Ana's sacrifices, the growth of The Mind Cafe, and the work that ultimately led to our Westfield Local Heroes Award 🙏🏻

Whatever happens next, that kindness can never be liquidated ❤️

With gratitude, love and kindness,
Guy & Ana ❤️
