A small Tundra update.

Tundra Psychology is now offering our individual psychology services to people aged 16 years and over.

This means we’re now welcoming older adolescents aged 16 and 17 through Tundra, alongside our existing adult clients.

This includes therapy, assessments, exploration sessions and our other individual psychology services.

One thing that feels important when working with older adolescents is recognising that this can be a stage of increasing independence. That means being thoughtful about confidentiality, choice, family or caregiver involvement, and what feels useful for the young person themselves.

Our approach remains neuroaffirming, gender-affirming and flexible, with room for different ways of communicating, processing and engaging.

Appointments are available via telehealth.

I often hear people say that they no longer know what helps them feel regulated.

This can be especially noticeable when someone has been dealing with stress, overload or high demands for a while. By the time distress is high, it can be much harder to notice what you need, remember what has helped before, or begin something supportive.

This is one reason I think regulation can become too closely associated with what we do once things are already difficult.

For me, regulation is also woven through ordinary life: walking outside, listening to a podcast I am interested in, crocheting, or becoming absorbed in a creative project.

For someone else, it might involve movement, stimming, predictable routines, sensory input, solitude, connection, rest or fewer demands.

The same thing will not necessarily help every time.

A neuroaffirming lens also invites us to look beyond what the person should do differently. Sometimes the environment is too demanding, there is too much sensory input, or what is needed is more rest, predictability or support.

Regulation is not about doing it in the “right” way or appearing calm.

Sometimes it is less about finding the perfect strategy and more about noticing patterns over time: what helps, what makes things harder, what your system seems to need, and what around you may need to change.

And sometimes understanding those patterns is easier with support — it does not have to be something you work out entirely on your own.

What does it mean to be neuroaffirming?

A neuroaffirming approach recognises neurodivergent ways of being as valid, without minimising disability, distress or support needs.

It means staying curious about what helps each person, listening to lived experience, and considering the barriers created by environments and expectations—not simply expecting neurodivergent people to do all the changing.

Swipe through to explore what neuroaffirming practice can look like.

Neuroaffirming practice is one part of Tundra Psychology’s broader commitment to inclusive psychological support.

Questions about Autism or ADHD can emerge at any stage of adulthood.

Tundra Psychology offers neuroaffirming exploration and assessment with a clinical psychologist, available to adults across Australia via telehealth.

Assessment is collaborative and considers the whole person, rather than relying on a single test or score.

Not sure about formal assessment? A standalone exploration session offers space to talk through your questions without committing to a full assessment.

Therapy doesn’t have to follow a fixed script.

At Tundra Psychology, therapy is shaped through conversation, reflection, and building a shared understanding of what’s going on.

This might include making sense of patterns, looking at how things have developed over time, and working toward changes that feel meaningful and sustainable.

The pace, focus, and direction are all shaped together.
