Wishing the beautiful Bronwyn a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY for yesterday! Did you know: Bronwyn is our official Pet Therapy volunteer. Every fortnight when Doggie Dates Pet Therapy visits, it is Bronwyn's job to help lead our dogs around the facility to visit our residents. Thanks Bronnie!

Armchair Travel to Hungary

Today, on St Stephen’s Day — Hungary’s national day, we had the perfect opportunity to celebrate Hungarian history, heritage and culture with a very special armchair travel session.

St Stephen’s Day honours St Stephen, Hungary’s first king and the founder of the Hungarian state, and is a day of great national pride and celebration for the Hungarian people.

We were incredibly fortunate to have our very own resident, Liz Nagy, and her daughter Susan, join us as our special guest speakers. Liz shared her deeply personal story of coming to Australia after the war and beginning a new life here, while together, Liz and Susan gave us a wonderful insight into Hungarian culture, traditions and family life.

We listened to Hungarian folk music, watched traditional dances and explored beautiful videos showcasing Hungary’s architecture, landscapes and landmarks. We even had the opportunity to sample some Hungarian favourites, including goose liver pâté, blueberry jam, Hungarian chocolates and Hungarian red wine. 🍫🍷

But beyond the food, music and beautiful sights, it was Liz’s story that made the day truly special. There is something incredibly powerful about learning history from someone who was actually there — someone who experienced it, lived through it and carried those memories with them across the world. Liz gave us a personal connection to history that no textbook or documentary ever could.

A heartfelt thank you to Liz and Susan for sharing your time, your memories, your culture and a little piece of your hearts with us. ❤️

Today was so much more than an armchair journey to Hungary. It was a celebration of heritage, family, memory and the stories that connect us across generations and across the world.

Boldog Szent István-napot!
Happy St Stephen’s Day!

💛 Building Connections at Maroba 💛

Each week, we have the pleasure of welcoming students from Jesmond Public School to Maroba for some very special intergenerational visits.

Our time together looks different each week — from sports and trivia to board games, music and plenty of conversation. What stays the same is the wonderful connection that has grown between our residents and the students.

This week, things got a little competitive with a game of Giant Jenga! 🧱 There were plenty of laughs, careful moves and a few moments of suspense as the tower grew higher and higher.

These visits are about so much more than the activities themselves. They create opportunities for our residents and the children to share stories, laughter, skills and experiences, and the connections that have developed are truly beautiful to see.

We are so grateful to the students and staff of Jesmond Public School for being part of our Maroba community each week. ❤️

💍❤️ A Very Special Wedding Visit ❤️💍

There was a beautiful moment at Maroba recently that we wanted to share.

Our resident Jan was unable to attend the wedding of her granddaughter, Jess, last weekend, but that didn’t stop Jess from finding a very special way to include her in the celebrations.

This week, Jess and her new husband Shaun came to Maroba dressed in their wedding attire to visit Jan and share some precious moments together. They even took some beautiful photographs with Jan — creating memories that will be treasured for years to come. 📸

Jan was absolutely beaming, and it was wonderful to see the joy on her face as she saw her granddaughter as a bride and met her new husband.

Maroba worked closely with Jan’s daughter, Donna, to help organise this special visit, and we were so pleased to be able to play a small part in bringing this beautiful family moment together.

Congratulations to Jess and Sean, and thank you for sharing such a special moment with us. 💕💍

🚌🌊 A Wonderful Day Out at Warners Bay & Marmong Point! 🌊🚌

Our residents enjoyed a lovely bus trip this week, taking in the beautiful sights around Warners Bay and Marmong Point.

We made the most of the trip with a classic favourite — fish and chips by the water! 🐟🍟 We parked up, enjoyed our lunch with the gorgeous waterfront views, and took plenty of time to relax and enjoy each other’s company.

The verdict from our residents? The food was amazing! 😋 Thank you to The Swordfish Co at Warners Bay.

It was a wonderful opportunity to get out and about, enjoy some fresh air and beautiful scenery, and simply spend time together outside of Maroba.

🔬 National Science Week at Maroba 🔬

In celebration of National Science Week, our residents put on their thinking caps and stepped into the laboratory for an afternoon of science, experimentation and discovery.

Our resident Professors worked their way through a variety of experiments, with the highlight being our homemade lava lamp, created using oil, water, food colouring and an effervescent tablet. The lava lamp worked through the simple science of density and gas, with the effervescent tablet creating bubbles that carried the coloured water up through the oil before it sank back down again as the bubbles disappeared.

It was wonderful to see our residents embracing their curiosity, trying something different and enjoying the opportunity to explore the science behind what they were seeing.

A successful afternoon in the lab — and we think our Professors deserve top marks! 🔬👏
