👀 How Paediatric OTs see the world…

To everyone else, it might just look like play and everyday activities - but OTs are always noticing the skills happening underneath! 🧩🎲💃

From dancing to drawing, puzzles to the playground, getting dressed and more, there are opportunities everywhere to develop skills that support children’s participation, independence and confidence. 💛

Because for paediatric OTs, play isn’t just play - it’s one of the most important ways children learn, develop and connect with the world around them. 🌟

✨ Introducing our newest (and rather special) team member…

If you know the story of Remarkable You OT, you’ll know that while Shayla founded RYOT from her own experiences as a mum and carer, her husband Cameron has never been too far behind the scenes.

And now, we’re making it official. 💛

We’re so excited to welcome Cameron as Managing Director, working alongside Shayla as Founder & Clinical Director.

Cam brings extensive leadership experience across the disability, mental health and community sectors, along with his own lived experience and a deep understanding of Remarkable You OT and why it exists.

For us, this next chapter isn’t simply about growing a business, it’s about growing our impact while protecting the culture, values and purpose at the heart of RYOT.

✨ RYOT RESET DAY ✨

A little look at what we got up to during our RYOT Reset Day yesterday! 💜

We spent the day stepping away from our usual schedules to connect as a team, have some fun, learn together and look ahead to what’s next for RYOT.

We kicked off with some professional development, including learning around refining our clients’ intervention goals and plans, and our report writing skills.

We also shared our vision for the future of RYOT and had some great conversations about where we’re heading as we continue to grow. ✨

Then there was plenty of fun, some VERY competitive team challenges 😂, lots of laughs… and the much-needed job of resetting and organising our resource cupboards!

It was a really lovely day of learning, connection, fun and getting ourselves reset for what’s ahead. 💜

Resource Spotlight: Animal Counters 🐾

Animal counters are such a versatile resource for paediatric OT sessions!

With a little creativity, they can be used in so many different ways.

A few of our favourite ways to use them:
🖐️ Wrap pipe cleaners or Wikki Stix around the animals for fine motor practice
🌈 Use tweezers to pick up and sort the animals
🤲 Lie on your tummy on a scooter board while collecting animals
🐾 Make animal prints or hide them in playdough

We love resources that can be used in lots of different ways and easily adapted to match a child’s interests and goals! 💛

It’s been a big week at Remarkable You OT! 💛

Over the past week, we’ve had the absolute pleasure of welcoming **three new faces to our team** Roslyn, our very first RYOT Speech Pathologist (middle), Rachel, our newest Occupational Therapist (left), and Sienna, our newest Allied Health Assistant (right)! 🎉

We’ve been busy onboarding, learning, sharing lots about the Remarkable You way and, most importantly, getting to know these three wonderful humans.

There’s something pretty special about seeing our team continue to grow and having new people bring their own experience, ideas and strengths into the mix.

We’re so excited to have you all here and can’t wait to see the impact you each make with our Remarkable children, young people and families. 🌱

A little behind the scenes of paediatric OT 👀

A lot of planning goes into each therapy session before a child even walks through the door.

We spend time thinking about each child - what they enjoy, what they’re working towards, what supports their participation and how we can make the session engaging and meaningful for them.

And sometimes… there’s a little bit of frantic running around involved too. 😂

Starting Prep can be a big step for both children and families, but you don’t need to navigate it alone!

Prep readiness isn’t just about knowing your ABCs and 123s. It’s about having the skills to participate, connect, learn and build independence in the school environment.

We’re here to support your child to develop these skills and feel confident as they take this exciting next step. 💛

Why can the same environment feel so different for different children?

Every child experiences the world differently, and sensory processing can be an important part of the picture.

Some children may seek out lots of movement, touch or noise, while others may become overwhelmed by certain sounds, textures, lights or everyday activities.

As OTs, we look at how sensory differences impact a child’s everyday life to better understand their sensory preferences and needs, and develop practical strategies to support their participation.

This might look like movement breaks, changes to the environment, sensory tools, building body awareness, or finding ways to make tricky everyday activities feel more manageable.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. What works for one child might not work for another!

Only THREE WEEKS TO GO! 🎉

We’re getting very excited to welcome Speech Pathology to Remarkable You OT for the very first time!

In just two weeks, an experienced Speech Pathologist will be joining the RYOT team, bringing even more opportunities for children and families to receive connected, collaborative support all in one place. 💛

We can’t wait to share more about Speech Pathology at RYOT, including the areas we’ll be supporting and, of course, introduce the newest member of our team!

Speech Pathology appointments will be available from Monday 14 September.
