Oh it has been a while between NDIS rants hasn't it?!? Hating to disappoint here is my (Kate's) latest capturing of only a small snapshot of the 320+ Submissions on the NDIS Bill I highlighted the other week. My focus is on the Commonwealth Ombudsman, The Australian Human Rights Commission and the NDIS' own Reform Advisory Committee - excellent support of the messaging of everyone else in the land (except Aruma it seems 🤢)

Happy Reading (Link in comments)

Hi Everyone ****** IMPORTANT ******

Have you heard about the NDIS Bill changes being pushed through Parliament at the moment? As a parent of ND kids who hbave absolutely benefited so much from individualised support, and a Sister/Carer to an older brother with Severe and Complex disability - These changes are NOT GOOD. SCARY. ABHORRENT. DISGUSTING. So many more words.

For VERY brief background - this Bill, amongst other things involves:

- Giving the Minister control to cut any and all plans as he sees fit without any reason except 'financial sustainability' (this is the guy that balances the budget for his portfolio?!?)

- To expect people to do and show proof of doing all available "treatments" BEFORE (regardless of their financial or geographical or you know human-rights based choice to say NO, to ABA, or Electroconvulsive therapy, or you know, the latest clinical trial??? Where does this actually stop?). It may also be used to control access for Children or 'new' disabilities - as it speaks to "any further treatment is unlikely to materially improve, reverse or alleviate the impairment’s impact, and the impairment is likely to persist for the person’s lifetime."

- To put maximum limits on sections of a plan across the board - no individual planning amounts based on actual need.

- To cut a disabled persons ability to get out in the community by 50% regardless of need, in October 2026.

- If they can't contact you, they will have powers to suspend or cancel your NDIS plan.

- To expect that you must keep your child's receipts for over 5 years or your own for 3+ years, despite the fact you upload these to the Portal (what the!?!)

- To have debts raised against you without human interaction.

- Expecting women to go back to fulltime caring and not participate in the workforce.

In the comments I will link to the best survey that I have seen so far that both informs participants and families of the changes that are currently being presented to parliament but also gives an organisation data to inform their submission.

The survey closes today, 24/05/2026. I'm hoping they will keep it open but I urge every single person, if you can't submit something individual to the enquiry to consider completing this - because it is having your say, and the most easy way to understand what they're actually proposing without reading 100+ pages of documentation.

Now the Inquiry -which closes Friday 29th May - REMEMBER a submission can literally be a paragraph demanding them to stop the passage of the Bill through parliament, to allow more time (or heck, any time, because none of these changes have been consulted on) for consultation with the disabled community and their informal carers.

We truly must stop this NOW, before it is Too Late.

A great visual for how far and wide the cuts announced are going to go. Every one of those bricks will effect people with disability and their loved ones.

We need an NDIS for the future, but to cut the scheme for the next 4 years to below inflation, is terrifying.

It’s hard to fathom the scale of a $35 billion cut to the NDIS.

Imagine a single piece of LEGO. Let’s say that tiny piece represents $1 million.

Now imagine how many pieces make up $35 billion.

You wouldn’t just have a pile - you’d build a wall FOURTEEN METRES LONG AND ONE METRE HIGH.

Let that sink in.

There are no alternative disability supports in place. We don't know what legislation changes are planned to make it happen. We haven’t seen the full modelling underpinning this astronomical cut. But we do know this:

• Hundreds of thousands of people could lose access to the NDIS
• Thousands more will lose essential daily supports
• Everyone will face reassessment for eligibility
• Over 200,000 jobs could be impacted, including jobs held by people with disability
• No therapy practice or provider will be untouched

This is people’s lives, supports, and futures.

Want to take action? Here’s how:

If you’re a professional or provider, support grassroots advocacy by joining our low-cost event (link in comments ). You’ll learn how to show up as an ally at a critical time, hear from leading advocates such as Dr George Taleporos (GAICD, PhD) and Stevie Lang Howson and your ticket will directly support the intense campaigning and advocacy needed in the weeks ahead.

Please share this with your networks.

And follow the incredible work already underway by Every Australian Counts, Disabled People Against Cuts (Australia), AND disability-led organisations, and advocates across the country.

This moment matters.

As an AuDHD business owner, I champion other ND business owners and entrepreneurs, and try to support where I can including by buying products and services.

This month, an amazing ND creative I know personally, Jan, who is an excellent human being as well an an awesome artist (See her work at ) released her first Neurographic Colouring Book.

Lucy received a copy as part of her team gift yesterday and described it as:
"Amazing quality, and a gorgeous mix of intricate and wonderfully flexible hand drawn images to work mindfully with"

I agree wholeheartedly

Check it out! ā¤ļøšŸ©·šŸ§”šŸ’›šŸ’ššŸ’™šŸ©µšŸ’œ

Have a read of the stark parallels between the aged care system's current failure that's been deemed not fit for purpose by someone who helped create it and is currently under investigation by the ombudsman, and what is happening in the NDIS space.

Human oversight and override powers must remain central when governments introduce AI and algorithms to Human Services.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1ChsU2T3Nf/

What’s happening in aged care right now is a warning for the NDIS community.
A new algorithm-based assessment system is already leaving older Australians with less support than they need. No transparency. No flexibility. No ability for assessors to override decisions, even when they know the outcome is wrong.
And now, similar changes are being proposed for the NDIS.
This isn’t just policy. This is people’s lives.
We are being asked to accept a system where:
• A score decides your support
• Your real-life needs may not be fully seen
• You can’t properly challenge the outcome
We’ve seen where this leads. We cannot let it happen again.
The NDIS was built on fairness, choice, and dignity. Rushed reforms that ignore lived experience put all of that at risk.
Now is the time to act:
šŸ“£ Contact your MP
šŸ“£ Demand transparency and proper testing
šŸ“£ Share your story
Together, we built the NDIS. Together, we protect it.
