Hi Everyone ****** IMPORTANT ******
Have you heard about the NDIS Bill changes being pushed through Parliament at the moment? As a parent of ND kids who hbave absolutely benefited so much from individualised support, and a Sister/Carer to an older brother with Severe and Complex disability - These changes are NOT GOOD. SCARY. ABHORRENT. DISGUSTING. So many more words.
For VERY brief background - this Bill, amongst other things involves:
- Giving the Minister control to cut any and all plans as he sees fit without any reason except 'financial sustainability' (this is the guy that balances the budget for his portfolio?!?)
- To expect people to do and show proof of doing all available "treatments" BEFORE (regardless of their financial or geographical or you know human-rights based choice to say NO, to ABA, or Electroconvulsive therapy, or you know, the latest clinical trial??? Where does this actually stop?). It may also be used to control access for Children or 'new' disabilities - as it speaks to "any further treatment is unlikely to materially improve, reverse or alleviate the impairmentās impact, and the impairment is likely to persist for the personās lifetime."
- To put maximum limits on sections of a plan across the board - no individual planning amounts based on actual need.
- To cut a disabled persons ability to get out in the community by 50% regardless of need, in October 2026.
- If they can't contact you, they will have powers to suspend or cancel your NDIS plan.
- To expect that you must keep your child's receipts for over 5 years or your own for 3+ years, despite the fact you upload these to the Portal (what the!?!)
- To have debts raised against you without human interaction.
- Expecting women to go back to fulltime caring and not participate in the workforce.
In the comments I will link to the best survey that I have seen so far that both informs participants and families of the changes that are currently being presented to parliament but also gives an organisation data to inform their submission.
The survey closes today, 24/05/2026. I'm hoping they will keep it open but I urge every single person, if you can't submit something individual to the enquiry to consider completing this - because it is having your say, and the most easy way to understand what they're actually proposing without reading 100+ pages of documentation.
Now the Inquiry -which closes Friday 29th May - REMEMBER a submission can literally be a paragraph demanding them to stop the passage of the Bill through parliament, to allow more time (or heck, any time, because none of these changes have been consulted on) for consultation with the disabled community and their informal carers.
We truly must stop this NOW, before it is Too Late.
