Special Spring event 🌱✨

So many of my loves, woven together:

Sensuous movement practice, Taoist wisdom, time in fresh air, mark-making and drawing inspiration from the earth, games and practices to connect us back home to nature - within us and around us. All in honouring of the seasons and cycles we move through, individually and in collective.

And a picnic!

All above becomes even more delicious when shared with sincere and wholehearted folks you can be truly yourself, to explore alongside, and laugh with. If you’ve joined me before at • estuary yoga •, you’ll know.

This is the kind of togetherness which our systems yearn for.

Spring 🌱✨

Spring holds the energy of emergence.

Associated with the Wood element in Taoist philosophy, there is a rising up and out, like a seedling sprouting towards the radiance of the sun. A windy season of transition, our bodies can benefit from a focus on the tendons and ligaments which act as connectors, as that which joins the parts into a whole.

To expand and grow, we must also root deep and true. This qi gong sequence grounds us into the power of the glutes and legs, while inviting a buoyancy, adaptability and spaciousness into the sides of the abdomen, ribcage, neck and head. It encourages three dimensional rotation through the shoulders, elbows and wrists - like branches reaching out towards the warmth of sunbeams, the form reminds us of a rooted unfurling; we sense the kind of expansion which does not forget to anchor to the mother of this earth.

Try this out for yourself, keen to hear how it lands for you~

To tend to this body, to this breath, to this earth and all who inhabit it, with utmost care. The way we do one thing is the way we do everything.

An offering coming soon in the Spring air of late October, weaving together movement, cultivation of energy, nature connection, mark – making ( a.k.a. drawing), and the unlearning and relearning of how we can perceive the environment we are part of.

To engage from a place not of separation, but of intrinsic and intimate belonging. 🤍

Saturday 24 October (pm) & 31 October (am), Darebin Parklands, Naarm. In collaboration with with • estuary yoga • 🫶🏽

Comment TEND and I’ll send the link to full info + bookings 🙌🏾

More classes! Now on Tues as well as Weds morn 🌱

Since starting to offer this class a few months ago • estuary yoga • I’ve been thrilled and humbled to hear how much folks are enjoying and taking home from these shared practices.

We have so much fun being in serenity and silliness, often getting curious about novel (and sometime dorky but functionally nutritious) dance moves. There are many moments where I watch in awe at the grace and elegance of a room of bodies, moving to their own rhythm and form, so in presence and connection to breath, to life.

This is a practice of relishing the body, and learning to behold a fuller experience of this vehicle we are gifted.

It’s a good time. Come explore with us 🤍

A beautiful song which has brought comfort and strength to the young, scared parts within me, many times.

In Chinese the phrase for birth is 出生(chū shēn) - to emerge or birth from the ground. We are born from this earth, rather than born ‘into’ the world (perhaps from some ethereal realm) as the common English implies.

Thus, we are already in belonging, in the family of all things, in relationship to all beings. Separation lives as an illusion which blinds us from remembering.

How might our choices and actions be different, if we recognise and trust in this? 🤲🏽🤍

In Dreams | Jai-Jagdeesh

Know you are loved
Rest in peace
Dream your sweet dreams
‘Til your soul is released
Know you are loved...
Rest in peace
Dream your sweet dreams
‘Til your soul is released
Beloved child
My heart is yours
Beloved child
Go out and open doors
With your love
With your faith
With your compassion
With your grace
Oh, with your grace...
Beloved child
You are the light of the world
Beloved child...
Go out, spread light to the world
Be strong, be kind, be brave
Know your mind
Know that you’re divine
Know that it’s alright to be afraid
Know you are loved...
Rest in peace
Dream your sweet dreams
‘Til your soul is released
Know you are loved...
Rest in peace
Dream your sweet dreams
‘Til your soul is released...

We communicate a lot through words. Yet… Words are symbols, just as our bodies make symbols, every moment of the day. It’s all language, vehicles for communicating meaning.

We can easily be caught in the dance of making symbols to impress: to convey power, desirability, or forms of being ‘special’. To stand out enough to be admired, yet not enough to be deemed egoic.

Yet the beauty of words, of bodies, of sound and any communication, is its capacity to convey a truth, through expression. As i have learned from an indigenous elder: to speak from the heart, to the heart.

A guiding contemplation I’ve carried with me the past few years: ‘An I speaking to impress, or to express?’

Our words matter. Our body language matters. Our intention matters. The energy we cultivate and carry through the world is what creates the change. Our choices ripple out in ways beyond what can be measured.

That one word of kindness, that one gesture of care… you never know how it might shift the reality of another - or yourself.

This is where one can write something witty, intelligent, poetic or prayerful. I can still feel the conditioning and desire to be impressive, yet I know now that is just empty gift wrap. I’m not interested in gift wrap.

I’m interested in being real, and kind, within all of the light and shadow of being alive and human, in connection with the world. To live it through my body, and actions, not just in words.

So a prompt for you, when you next talk, write, move, respond: are you speaking to impress, or express? 🪞✨

📸 Steve thank you for helping me see myself more truthfully, in all different lights and shadows 🫀

Life is full of mirrors. 🪞🌱

Movement is one of them - reflecting back through the body where we resist, where we hold on, where we can be more kind and generous, or discerning with our choices.

I cherish the opportunities I have to share movement practices, and to help move folks through the dance of zenthai shiatsu - so that we can not just think about, but experience and embody what is meaningful, necessary and supportive for our innate intelligence to shine through.

We need more people centred in their place within the whole, rather than enmeshed in the world of self-centred narratives.

Now offering morning classes as well as zenthai shiatsu sessions on Tues + Weds at • estuary yoga •, North Melbourne.

Come move - or be moved. Class bookings via link in bio / DM me to arrange 1:1 zenthai treatments between 11am-4pm 🤲🏽✨

This powerful song has been Sacred Fire for me lately - a balm and a blessing to anchor into during a time of unbecoming, glooping, and slowly re-emerging 🦋

Thank you Georgia Astridge for your soulfulness and all that you create from the heart and truth of you. Xacaron Pedlar Pope grateful for sharing this gem with me 🫀✨

When life presents challenging textures, individually and collectively, it is art in all its forms which invites the alchemy of our pain into beauty.

Some of the lyrics below.
Listen to more of Georgia’s work on Bandcamp (or Spotify/Tidal). Let’s support artists directly whenever we can 🤍🤲🏽

INSIDE WE GO
UNCHARTED WATERS
SHADOWS BELOW
INSIDE MY HEART
INSIDE WE GO
ANCHORING WISDOM
AS WE EVOLVE
SO TOO WE GROW

INSIDE WE GO
INTO THE DARKNESS
THE FORGOTTEN PARTS
OF OUR PSYCHE
INSIDE WE GO
BENEATH THE SURFACE
BETWEEN THE FEAR
UNDER THE OCEAN OF YOUR...... PAIN

COME TAKE MY HAND
I’VE ALWAYS BEEN HERE
INSIDE THE DREAM
INSIDE YOUR MIND
REACH OUT TO ME
CALL AND RECEIVE THE
GUIDANCE WITHIN
ABOVE AND BELOW

INSIDE YOUR HEART
LIVES A FOUNTAIN
OF THE DEEPEST WELL
A SPRING SO PURE
OF JOY
LET IT RUMBLE
LET IT ALL GO
LET IT WASH OVER YOUR SOUL

AND THE FIRE IS HERE TO BURN AWAY ALL THE OLD
THAT TRANSPIRED BEFORE OUR EYES WERE OPEN (UP)
OH SACRED FIRE RISES EVERYDAY FOR US
TO SHINE LIGHT ON EARTH AND HELP HER GROW
SACRED FIRE I GIVE YOU ALL OF MY DEAD BRANCHES
MY LEAVES ARE TURNING BROWN AGAIN
TAKE IT TAKE IT ALL AND WHAT YOU DON’T WILL BE USED TO COMPOST

INTO BEAUTY, INTO BEAUTY, INTO BEAUTY...

“The body is a sacred garment. It is your first and your last, and as such should be treated with honour, joy, and fear but all with a blessing.”

~ Martha Graham

Learning a lot recently about grief, boundaries, and how when navigating times of transition, one must continue to come back to the tending of this body, this miraculous vehicle for a life.

One in which we are never alone, and one which we can learn to steward, with increasing kindness and kinship.

So, even in the hard and harsh places - touch and tread lightly. Tend to the pulse of your heartbeat. It starts always, with taking a moment, a breath, to listen.

The whole world lives here, where you land.

A lot of modern yoga and movement classes focus on the physicality and músculo-skeletal aspects of the postures, but the original intention for the postures was focused on moving energy and awareness along the path of the spine. The energetic channel is shushumna nadi - meaning ‘most gracious’ - around which ida and pingala, the energies of moon and sun, revolved in a spiral.

Everything alive requires tending. To tend to the spine includes moving it in all directions, regularly - not just to ‘make’ the movement but to be led by what wants to move, to let it flow through you. Through this listening, we can become more attuned to where we tend to hold or grip, where we might benefit from more strength or stability. Like the spiralling energies of lunar and solar, feminine and masculine, yin and yang, it is all about calibrating our state towards one of harmony between polarities. Where better to start than our centreline.

More simply and pragmatically put too - a fluid spine feels far more yummy than a stiff one. And when we feel better, we can make better choices, towards being kind in how we tend to life, to each other, and all that we experience.

I’ll be creating more of these little movement snack videos, with the hope you’ll join in, even for 2 minutes (or longer if it inspires you). All of it counts 🙌🏾

Save it, share it, try it out - and let me know how you go!

Plenty of spine tending happens in Fascia Flow classes, Tuesday (6.15/7.30am) and Wednesday (9.30am) mornings • estuary yoga • North Melbourne - bookings via link in bio 🤍
