The story behind my story
~ To Fly Through the Stars ~
With the understanding that you can spend your whole life searching for something that’s outside of yourself when you’re actually looking for the internal connection, this is what has inspired a lot of my work. Our family like so many were impacted by the Stolen Generation and colonisation in Australia; we continue to understand the depth of strength, heart and tenacity that is required for healing transgenerational trauma.
The covid situation kept us separate physically for the past 2 years, creating fears and feelings of loss, separation, anxiety and grief. Knowing that this has been a significant experience for the First Nations people of Australia, our family knew this very well and we could see it was now permeating through the whole world.
This situation inspired me to speak to this in writing as a way of gently creating awareness of where our true connection lies, that we are never truly separate and we all belong; exactly how we are at any given moment. As an Aboriginal woman, I walk in 2 worlds daily, which is a beautiful experience, however does place you in the minority at times. Part of my purpose is to provoke thought, without it, there is no change.
This story is based on my experience of spiritual living and education, healing, connection, cultural connection, expansion of heart, and how the true essence of energy manifests into the physical form. The mind, although powerful, cannot necessarily provide what you need when it comes to understanding the power of what it is to be a celestial being. It requires a felt sense, learning to sit silently, hearing and experiencing what is here in what is perceived to be silent, is the truest essence of all.
The characters in this book are each named and based on my immediate family; my Mother Victoria, 2 sons Joel & Brad, Nieces Shaeli & Belle, Nephews Anton, Taner & Cody, Cousins Jack & Sam, and one of my dearest friends’ bubs Grace.
My mother passed away at 36 years of age, my sister and I were very young. We often experienced her presence after her passing, which was comforting in a way, knowing that she would pop in to check on us, letting us know she was there, her perfume was a giveaway every time!
Many years later we had another devasting loss with Anton when he was 10 years of age, through a tragic road accident. Anton was a delightful vibrant young boy with a huge heart, he made friends everywhere he went and connected with everything and everyone he came into contact with.
Living in connection with our hearts, knowing that although there’s physical separateness, there’s always a connection beyond this – if we can come back to that, the experience is truly beautiful – that’s true freedom, that’s how we learn To Fly Through the Stars!
Thank you & enjoy
