Moving with our little ones. Always a vibe!

Surely it’s still not this way, it’s 2026 🫠
So many conversations across the past few months and then again at a beautiful session I did this morning with a lady has led me to my first little ‘rant’ post.
Popular or unpopular view that women in their postpartum deserve proper support, regular checks and advice and strategies to help them understand their bodies after birth and find a way to rebuild and rediscover themselves in their new ‘motherhood’ form.
If this is you, I AM SO SORRY THAT YOU HAVE HAD YOUR CONCERNS PUSHED TO THE SIDE OR NOT VALIDATED. I am also sorry that health care providers might not have directed you to the appropriate people or services to better support your healing.
Your little people are checked routinely at different time points along their first few months/years earth side. I really don’t think it would be all too difficult to make it mainstream to have mothers routinely checked at regular time points across their first few months/years too.
It’s a very ‘old school’ approach to just think that you will be right. So if anyone says ‘that’s just normal’ or ‘it will just get better/sort itself out’ but that doesn’t sit well with you- your instincts are right and you should find another practitioner that listens, respects and refers to the right sources!
YOU DESERVE TO THRIVE AND YOU WILL WHEN YOU ARE GIVEN A CHANCE!

I want you to know as a physio…

If you were discharged from hospital with no recommendations or referrals for your recovery….

That you absolutely should have more than just your 6 week GP review to maximise your recovery.

Your best bet is a pelvic floor practitioner or a women’s health physiotherapist.

Your wellness and recovery is equally as important as your babies health and wellness 🤍

Reach out to your trusted providers and be sure that you are seen and heard ✨

How I’m using my Pilates ball to help heal my abdominal separation after my 2nd c section.
Handy hint. It’s more than just crunches.
✅ Targeting upper and lower abdominal muscles in ‘isolation’ as well as activities that require them to work together is a great little combo to build control and strength.
✅ Focussing on breath with movement is absolutely vital.
✅ Combining activation with thoracic mobility is also a fab way to improve the anterior abdominal wall.
✅ the Pilates ball creates a bit of an unstable environment which can aid in additional muscle recruitment. Be sure to deep your mind drifting back to engaging your deep core and maintain activation throughout, alternatively try to reengage the deep core before each movement/rep.

*specific and individualised advice should always be sought to ensure that the movement is safe for your circumstances

Pilates & Play Autumn event was a beautifully chaotic morning where the big people were well and truly outnumbered by the little ones 😅
Cool and windy conditions saw us seek a bit of shelter closer to the homestead but everyone embraced the conditions enjoying some purposeful movement and play and then a delicious spread together.

Our Autumn Pilates & Play event 2025 🍂 it honestly feels surreal that this event actually came to life in back in 2024. ...
