If you eat a balanced diet with plenty of fresh veggies and include some red meat a couple times a week and your menstrual cycle isn’t heavy then your gut may be the issue. Low iron can be the result of SIBO or a lack of stomach acid so the absorption of iron may be the cause. If this sounds like you (and you don’t need to have gut symptoms) it may be time for a chat to see if looking at your gut may be the source of your iron issues.

I love microbiome testing. It gives you so much information about your gut and overall health. I am a big believer that knowledge is power and you can make changes when you know what you need to change. Prevention is the key to great health and longevity. There are many chronic diseases that you can help to prevent by getting your gut into the best condition possible.

Constipation can have many causes. Methane - dominant producing microbes is one of the most overlooked causes. Methane gas slows the gut motility which means your stool moves through more slowly, no matter how “clean” your diet is. If your constipation hadn’t budged even though you are doing all the basics such as eating fibre and drinking plenty of water then it may be time you consider methane. Testing is needed to determine this as a cause so if you want to investigate your constipation further comment “test” to discuss further.

Ideally, you should have 1–2 easy, complete bowel movements a day. It should feel satisfying — no straining, no urgency, no half-finished feeling. If you’re skipping days, having tiny rabbit pellets, or going multiple times without feeling emptied, something’s off. As a naturopath, I look at hydration, fibre, bile flow, nervous system tone, and gut bacteria to get things moving naturally.

If this sounds like you then we should talk. DM me to see if SIBO testing may be right for you.

Reflux isn't a Nexium deficiency. It's a signal — and there are things worth investigating before you mask it.

Here are some at home remedies that you can try to help get relief from reflux -

1. Iberogast before meals
This herbal blend supports healthy digestive motility and can calm the burning, bloating and discomfort that comes with reflux. Take it before you eat.

2. Slow down at meals
Eating too fast means swallowing air and under-chewing food — both drive reflux. Put your fork down between bites. Chew until it's practically liquid.

3. Don't lie down straight after eating
Give your body 2-3 hours upright after meals before you lie down. Gravity is doing you a favour.

4. Ginger tea
Ginger supports gastric emptying, which means food (and acid) doesn't sit around causing trouble. Sip it warm, ideally before or with meals.

5. Mind your vagal tone
Eating in "fight or flight" mode (rushed, stressed, scrolling) impairs digestion. A few slow breaths before you eat can make a real difference.

If you've tried these and reflux is still showing up, it's not you failing at the basics — it's a sign you need a more comprehensive investigation into what's actually driving it.

Test, don't guess.

You don't have to put up with reflux. DM me if you need more help.
