Kristie Molnar Arts Therapy & Counselling

Kristie Molnar Arts Therapy & Counselling Kristie is dedicated to walking with people through the terrain of their lived experiences using the gentle yet powerful process of therapeutic art making.

I partner people in self inquiry and discovery, making sense of life and uncovering answers, solutions and pathways in becoming more authetically who we prefer to be, creating change and growth in peace, confidence and freedom. The more we understand ourselves and our relationships with others and the world, the more confidence we can bring to live our lives with greater authenticity, meaning and

satisfaction. Kristie is skilled in using the Therapeutic Arts as a creative process to support people in better understanding themselves, their relationships and their world. Her speciality is working with children ages 3-16 and parents. She has particular lived experience with Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) and families effected by this. Through the process of art making and the dramatic arts, Kristie partners clients in exploring what’s at the heart of the matter, following the client's lead as being the expert of their lives and experiences. Kristie advocates for the client’s voice, autonomy, and sense of self in every session, customising each session to the needs, values and strengths of the individual client. Kristie works collaboratively with clients of all ages using a variety of art modalities like clay, drama, painting, sand, drawing and movement as a way of inquiring into what often lies hidden beneath the surface of what we already know about ourselves. Art Therapy;
• provides clients with opportunities to
focus, explore possibilities, make new
choices and self-correct
• offers clients new insights and new ways
of seeing themselves and their
relationships
• promotes self-expression and provides a
safe way for clients to release emotions
and share about themselves and what’s
happening without struggling too much to
find the words
• offers an avenue to explore client’s past
and present and take empowering steps
towards the future
• decreases stress, depression, anxiety, and
fear
• can be a pleasurable experience that
provides distraction and respite from
internal and external stressors. Kristie weaves warmth, humour, and compassion into the therapeutic relationship. Kristie promotes the client’s capacity for self-determination and personal agency and practices a trauma-informed approach. Kristie’s priority is offering a positive unconditional regard that is respectful and inclusive of culture, race, sexuality, physicality, non/gender identification, neurodiversity, and abilities. Kristie works with a wide range of client concerns and has lived experience working with but not limited to the following topics;

Every parent has fear around boundaries because of the pushback can be hard to deal with.

Kids will ask. That's what they do.

Parents are allowed to (and at times definitely should) say NO.

Your child might feel upset that you said no. They might cry. They might feel frustrated and angry (who likes being told no?!) - and that's ok. However they feel is ok - It doesn't mean you change your answer

You can show up with care and love and comfort for those feelings:

Validate how they're feeling ("I can tell my decision upset you.").

Show you care ("I care about how you feel." "I'm here for you.").

Explore the feelings under their behaviour (“How were you feeling when you _____?”).

Offer comfort ("Do you want a hug?").

Love them all the way through the big feelings. See their pain. Stay strong with your boundary decision (no means no). When you do this, you teach them how to deal with upsets and tough feelings - what an amazing life skill!
