Today, we honour the life and legacy of Dr Garry Landreth, a pioneer whose work transformed the way we understand and support children.
Dr Landreth dedicated his career to championing the power of play as a child's natural language and believed that children communicate their experiences, feelings, and needs through play when words are not enough.
His development and promotion of Child-Centred Play Therapy has impacted countless children, families, and practitioners across the world. Through his teaching, writing, and unwavering belief in the therapeutic relationship, he helped us see children not as problems to be fixed, but as individuals with an innate capacity for growth, healing, and resilience.
One of his most enduring messages reminds us:
"Toys are children's words and play is their language."
As play therapists, educators, and helping professionals, we continue to build upon the foundation he created. His influence lives on in every playroom, every therapeutic relationship, and every child who finds healing through the power of play.
Thank you, Dr Garry Landreth, for your extraordinary contribution to children and the field of play therapy. Your legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
💛 Rest in peace, Dr Garry Landreth.
