ABHA Finals week is nearly here. 👀

And while everyone's thinking about entries, packing floats, feed, tack, outfits and the approximately 847 things we apparently need to take away with horses…

I'm getting Equissage organised too.

Genuine question for horse owners…

When you're considering something expensive for your horses, what actually makes it worth the money to you?

Is it:

👉 how often you'll use it
👉 whether it saves you time
👉 how many horses can use it
👉 how long it'll last
👉 whether you can see a difference yourself
👉 or something completely different?

Because “worth it” looks very different when you've got one horse compared with six.

I'm curious what matters most to you.

We bought our own Equissage back in 2023. At that point, I was simply a horse owner who'd decided it was something I wanted as part of our own horse-care routine.

I didn't start working with Equissage until 2024. And since then, one thing I've really enjoyed is watching other owners experience it with their own horses for the first time.

Because horses are pretty bloody good at giving you feedback.
They don't care about the brochure.
They don't care what I say.
And they definitely don't care what something costs. 😂

Most horses let you know pretty quickly how they're responding.
The lowered head.
The softer eye.
The licking and chewing.
The way they start to settle.

And you're usually the best person to notice those little changes because you know your horse.

That's why I'd much rather let someone experience Equissage with their own horse than try to convince them with a sales pitch.

Random horse-household question…

Who is actually the CEO of horse care at your place?

The one who notices you're nearly out of feed.

Knows when the farrier is due.

Organises teeth, rugs, supplements and appointments.

Notices when something in the paddock has been destroyed before anyone else does.

And somehow knows which horse owns which random piece of equipment.

Is it you?

Your partner?

Your kids?

Or is it supposedly “shared”… but we all know that's a lie? 😂

I reckon one of the biggest problems with buying anything horse-related is trying to work out everything yourself before you've even had a conversation.

You don't need to be an Equissage expert before you start looking at it.
Tell me about your horses.
Tell me what you do with them.
Tell me what your day-to-day routine looks like.

Then we can work out whether Equissage actually makes sense for you.
And if it doesn't? That's useful to know too.

We get asked regularly about horses not liking Equissage.

I can honestly say, in four years, I haven’t had one that genuinely didn’t like it.

Obviously, if you rushed in, threw it on and turned it up full ball straight away, you might get a different reaction 😂 But you wouldn’t do that with a horse that had never had a saddle on before either.

Like anything new, it’s about giving them a chance to understand what’s happening and introducing it properly.

The same goes for the tendon boots. If you have a horse that’s unsure about having something on their legs, there’s a really simple way to get them used to the weight and sensation before you even turn them on.

Give them that proper introduction and it doesn’t take long before you see them relax into it — lowered heads, softer eyes and that “yep, I’m quite happy here thanks” look.

Some of the best conversations with a horse happen without saying a word.

They’re in the quiet moments: grooming after a ride, running your hands over them, noticing what’s changed, giving them time to relax, and simply being present.

That’s one of the things I like about using the Equissage hand unit in place of a curry comb sometimes. It turns an ordinary grooming moment into a chance to slow down, pay attention, and support regular care—while giving both of you a little more time together.

Most horses let you know pretty quickly when they appreciate those moments.
