Working across both paediatric and adult populations, our OTs support people to build independence, confidence and participation in the activities that matter most to them.

From developing fine motor skills, emotional regulation and school readiness in children, to supporting adults with rehabilitation, daily living skills, return-to-work goals and community participation, Occupational Therapy is all about helping people live meaningful and fulfilling lives.

We are incredibly fortunate to have Cherry, Janae and Sonia as part of the AWS family. Their dedication, compassion and commitment to achieving positive outcomes make a lasting difference in the lives of our clients every day. 🌟

👨🏼‍🦽Tonight Bailey and Sally went out to Lightsview Recreation Centre to cheer on our client Luke in his first game of Wheelchair Football for Norwood! 😁👏🏼✌🏽🏉 Luke smashed his first game - Well done Luke!

We were so impressed by the skills and passion of everyone who played, it was a super entertaining game of football and we will be sure to go out again another time. It’s so good to see so many inclusive sports becoming available in the community ❤️

Ever had a day where your pain settles down, so you decide to catch up on everything you’ve been missing? 👀

You’re feeling better, so you clean the house, go for a long walk, hit the gym, tackle the garden… only to wake up the next day feeling worse than before.

This is often called the Boom & Bust Cycle 💥➡️😣

When symptoms improve, it’s tempting to do as much as possible. But sudden spikes in activity can overwhelm your body’s current capacity, leading to a flare-up and forcing you to rest more than you’d like. The cycle then repeats itself.

👉 The key isn’t doing less forever.
👉 It’s building consistency.

By pacing your activity levels and gradually increasing what your body can tolerate, you can reduce flare-ups, improve confidence, and make more sustainable progress over time.

Swipe through to learn:
✔️ What the Boom & Bust Cycle looks like
✔️ Why it happens
✔️ How pacing can help break the cycle
✔️ Practical strategies to stay active without the setbacks

Remember: progress is often built through consistency, not intensity. 💚

Ever wondered what an Occupational Therapist (OT) actually does? 🤔

It’s one of the most commonly misunderstood allied health professions, and it’s easy to see why! While OTs don’t usually focus on speech, fitness, or medical treatment, they do help people build the skills they need to participate in everyday life.

From fine motor skills and handwriting ✏️ to self-care routines 🪥, emotional regulation 💙, sensory processing 🌈, play skills 🧩, social interaction 👥, and independence at home, school, work, or in the community - OTs support people to do the things that matter most to them.

In this post, we’ve highlighted just some of the many areas Occupational Therapists can help develop. Every person’s goals are unique, and OT interventions are tailored to support meaningful participation in daily life.
