🌅Sunrise Qigong🌅
I’m currently on holidays in Bali, and blessed to have the opportunity to practice sunrise qigong on the beach in the mornings. It’s been a while since I’ve had easy access to the rising sun and had forgotten how powerful it can be. I’ve learnt a few different methods of working with the rising sun and have been practising them all on this trip. It is like starting your day by plugging directly into the world’s most powerful battery and supercharging yourself, connecting directly with the cosmic energies that govern life on earth.

Years ago, China Daily interviewed me about my time studying traditional Chinese medicine and martial arts in China and how I have integrated it into my clinical practice in Australia.

Returned to Hobart after some time away to attend the AACMAC conference wonderfully hosted by the Australian Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA) . I presented on some ways to approach ADHD from a Chinese medical point of view. I always find it it interesting navigating biomedical psychiatric diagnosis through the viewpoint of traditional medicines. Much like language, there is not usually a one to one translation and care needs to be taken otherwise the strengths of both medical systems can be diminished.

I was honoured to learn that my presentation had been awarded "Best Presentation on the Classics in Contemporary Practice." I outlined some of the ways this condition could be approached using the theories outlined in Chinese medical classical literature, hoping this would be useful for those in attendance with neurodivergent patients of their own. I hope this helps others in the profession to gain an understanding of how to contextualise neurodivergence within a Chinese medical framework, as I believe it can shed new light on understanding how to treat these patients.

Unfortunately due to the limitations of time, there was much of my research I wasn't able to share this time. Hopefully I will be able to go into more details about treatment methodologies in future.

Studies show that there is not only a relationship between sensorimotor timing, but also things like circadian rhythm and ADHD.

In Chinese medicine, issues of rhythm are often related to the lungs. Is it any wonder why there is also an increased liklihood of reduced immune function and asthma in ADHD?

This is a fact reflected in the Chinese medical longevity traditions, which aren't only limited to gentler modalities such as tai chi and qigong. In order to have a healthy body, we need to consider funcitonal strength, flexibility and mobility as well.
