Patients driving unimpaired need this more than ever. It's been a stressful and uncertain decade for medicinal cannabis patients since legal access began in 2016. This is a welcome step towards a fairer, evidence-based approach that recognises patients shouldn't be treated as criminals for taking their prescribed medicine.
Chatting to the TODAY show this morning about our proposed reforms to make sure drivers who use medicinal Cannabis aren’t automatically penalised with drug presence offences.
This is a commonsense reform that means patients who are taking legally-prescribed cannabis will no longer face criminalisation for driving with small amounts of THC in their system.
This is a good day for hundreds of thousands of people across the state who have been taking medicinal cannabis since it was made legal in 2016.
I want to be clear that this is not a ‘green light’ to drive high.
This reform ensures we’re not criminalising patients who are taking a legitimate, legal medicine.
