Some self-advocates are getting together to watch the stream as a group in their local area. This is called a watch party. We hope that self-advocates from all around Australia will join the event this way!

Last week, the Self Advocacy For Everyone Helpdesk team travelled to New Wave Bass Coast & South Gippsland Self Advocacy's 'Our Voice, Our Power' conference in Cape Patterson.

We talked about our project and the Helpdesk. We told self-advocates how the Helpdesk could support them and their group.

We also heard other presentations:
* The 'What is Self-Advocacy?' video was played at the start of the conference
* New Wave Self Advocacy talked about their history - how their group got started, and how it has grown over the years.
* A panel of self-advocates spoke. They talked about how they got started in self-advocacy, what it has done for them and their community, and their hopes for self-advocacy in the future
* VSAN (Victorian Self Advocacy Network) talked about their 2026 campaign. This is about funding for self-advocacy.

If you want to get started in self-advocacy, or make your group stronger, get in touch with the SAFE Helpdesk. You can contact us by phone on 0493 586 773 or email [email protected]

Last Tuesday, June 23, the Self Advocacy For Everyone Helpdesk team spoke at VALID's Advocacy in Action conference.

Tarli and Maz from SARU and Janet from Inclusion Australia led an interactive session about the Self Advocacy for Everyone (SAFE) project.

During the session, self-advocates told us what accessible information means to them and how they find the resources they need. These ideas will help shape the SAFE website, which is coming soon.

We told people about the SAFE Helpdesk and ways it can help self-advocates and groups. We also showed a short version of the 'What is Self-Advocacy' video.

We will be speaking at more conferences soon!

Last Tuesday, May 19, we officially launched the Self Advocacy For Everyone (SAFE) Helpdesk!

Self-advocates and supporters from across Victoria joined us at Ross House in Melbourne to celebrate.

We were proud to launch:
• the SAFE Helpdesk
• three free resource booklets
• a new video, What is Self Advocacy? (produced by self-advocates, with support from the Self Advocacy Resource Unit and SAFE).

A big thank you to everyone who attended, and made the day such a success. The launch was an important step in growing self advocacy and making it more accessible to people around Australia.

Please use the SAFE Helpdesk and help us spread the word by letting self advocates know that it is available! You can contact us by phone on 0493 586 773 or email [email protected]
