🎹 ONE toy. SIX stages. Zero new purchases.

Before you buy another baby gadget — that Kick & Play Piano can grow with your baby from their very first kicks all the way to sitting. As a paediatric physio, here’s how I’d use it at every stage 👇

1️⃣ Newborn — piano at the feet, every kick lights a key and teaches “I did that!”
2️⃣ Tummy time — flip it upright so baby looks up and lifts their head
3️⃣ Side-lying — piano in front to bring both hands to midline
4️⃣ Elevated tummy time — prop baby’s chest up to make head-lifting easier
5️⃣ Rolling — pop it to one side, just out of reach, to spark that first roll
6️⃣ Supported sitting — reaching for the keys builds core, balance & posture

The secret isn’t the toy — it’s how you position your baby with it. 💡

The baby world has SO much outdated advice floating around and honestly… some of it drives me insane 🫠

Not because parents are doing anything wrong — parents are doing their absolute best with the information they’re given.

But we now know SO much more about:
🤍 infant nervous systems
🤍 movement development
🤍 feeding
🤍 body tension
🤍 sensory processing
🤍 head shape
🤍 co-regulation
🤍 motor learning

And instead of brushing concerns off with:
“they’ll grow out of it”
or
“just keep trying”

…I want parents to actually feel supported with practical strategies that help babies FEEL GOOD in their bodies.

Because babies deserve more than just surviving the first year 🤍

With so many new faces here, I thought I’d properly introduce myself and what this page and approach is all about 🤍

I’m Tamara — paediatric physiotherapist, founder of Storybook Physiotherapy, and someone completely fascinated by how much the earliest months of life shape the future.

The more children I worked with over the years… the more I realised so many challenges we see later — movement difficulties, regulation struggles, focus, posture, coordination, body awareness — often have clues that started right at the beginning.

And that’s where my passion completely shifted.

Not just milestones.
Not just tummy time.
But helping babies feel SAFE in their bodies.

Because babies learn through movement, connection, sensory experiences, regulation, feeding, breathing, and interaction with the world around them.

The early months are such a powerful window for nervous system development and brain plasticity. We have such an incredible opportunity during this time to gently support babies toward calmer movement patterns, better regulation, stronger foundations, and deeper connection with their caregivers.

I don’t accept “colic” as simply a diagnosis without asking WHY.
I believe babies communicate through their bodies.
And I’m passionate about helping families uncover what their baby may be trying to tell us.

This field has absolutely captured my heart and continues to shape the direction I’m growing toward every day.

And honestly… we’re only just getting started ✨

Reflux mums… are you doing laundry olympics daily?

Spit up after spit up… outfit changes on repeat… it’s exhausting.

But reflux doesn’t mean avoiding floor time — it just means having the right setup.

The .tots luxe cotton, waterproof mat makes life so much easier.
Wipe it clean in seconds, protect your floors, and keep your baby comfortable and supported for tummy time and play.

Because your baby still needs to move, explore, and develop — even with reflux 🤍

Plus the black and white contrast supports visual tracking, attention, and early development 🩷

Want less mess and more play? You need this.

✨ My proven methods to help your tense, frustrated baby learn how to roll ✨
If your baby is trying so hard to roll but keeps getting stuck arching, stiffening, or getting frustrated… you’re not alone. This is one of the MOST common things I see in clinic — and the good news is, we can help your baby move with more ease.

Rolling from back to belly isn’t just a flip — it’s a beautiful sequence of integrated movements involving head control, core activation, upper-body reach, midline crossing, and coordinated hip movement. When even one part of this chain is tight or delayed, babies can get stuck arching instead of rotating.

Here are some of exact strategies I use every day to help babies move past the “stuck + arching” stage ⬇️

1️⃣ Bring the top leg over
Your baby cannot roll if their top leg is stuck behind them on the floor. This is the #1 cause of arching.
Ground that foot, guide the knee across, and watch their rotation + midline control instantly improve.

2️⃣ Try side-lying bouncing on a gym ball
This helps your baby feel the middle position, reduces extension patterns, and strengthens trunk + head control in a gentle, supportive way.

3️⃣ Tuck those hips up
Babies need a strong tummy tuck and stable pelvis to roll.
This hold helps activate the deep core + lower abdominals (and bonus: great for gassy babies!)
⚠️ Avoid doing this too soon after feeds if your little one has reflux.

4️⃣ Encourage upward + cross-body reaching
Think reaching for toys, rattles, or your face!
This gets the pecs firing, promotes rotation, and helps your baby learn to move across their body rather than arch backward.

These simple but powerful tips can make a HUGE difference for a baby who keeps getting “stuck” — but remember, some little ones need more tailored support depending on muscle tension, tone, and overall patterns of movement.

✨ Save + share this with a parent whose baby is getting stuck arching!
And if your little one is very tense, very frustrated, or always arching out of movements, send me a DM — I’m always here to help you support your baby’s body and confidence 🤍

Every recommendation in this guide supports the exact building blocks babies need for rolling — and the best part? These items can be repurposed in so many ways as your baby grows.

💫 The key skills babies need for rolling:

Tummy → Back Rolling

Think…
• Weight shift side-to-side with elbows under shoulders
• Tracking toys and turning the head to follow movement
• Reaching forward for toys
• Building head strength to lift and maintain extension
• Keeping the shoulders tucked and stable

These skills help babies push through the floor, shift their centre of mass, and use momentum in a safe and functional way.

Back → Tummy Rolling

Think…
• Reaching across the body to initiate rotation
• Tracking toys up to a 45° angle to encourage head and trunk movement
• Using core muscles to begin the turn
• Leg kicking to create momentum
• Hands to midline to activate the deep core and prepare the roll

All of my recommended tools support these exact foundations — visual engagement, reaching, weight shift, head control, midline awareness, and core activation.

✨ I’ve seen the trend… so it’s time to add my pieces in.
These are the things I’d tell you as a paediatric physio if I wasn’t scared of hurting your feelings — lovingly, honestly, and with your baby’s development in mind. 💛

Before you read on, a little note from me:
This isn’t about shame.
This isn’t about guilt.
This is about empowerment.

My goal is always to help you feel informed, confident, and supported in understanding your baby’s body and development. Everything I share comes from my physio perspective — years of watching babies learn, move, grow, and absolutely thrive when the right information reaches the right parents. ✨

Take what resonates, save what you need, and know that you’re doing an incredible job. 🤍

If you have questions about your bub’s milestones, head shape, rolling, crawling, tone, or tension — my DMs are always open.

These are the carrying positions to follow if you want your reflux bub to finally experience some relief. 👇✨

As a paediatric physiotherapist, I help babies with tension, discomfort, and reflux every single day. When a baby is uncomfortable in their body, they show you through wriggling, arching, fussing, and resisting movement. The right positions can make a HUGE difference in helping their little system feel regulated, supported, and soothed.

If your bub is dealing with reflux, here are the positions that truly help:

1️⃣ Tummy carry… with a twist
The classic tummy-down carry is amazing for trunk strength and tummy time prep.
BUT — for a refluxy bub, lying directly on their tummy can increase abdominal pressure.
✅ Try turning them gently onto their side instead.
This stretches their trunk, opens their body, and gives a more inclined, relieving position.

2️⃣ Upright carry with legs tucked… sometimes too squishy
I LOVE this position for helping babies come into midline and melt their tension.
But after a feed, it can compress their tummy.
✅ Instead, hold them upright and slightly stretched over their left side (your right shoulder).
This supports digestion and eases reflux while still keeping them calm and contained.

3️⃣ Avoid tummy time immediately after feeding
Going face-down on the floor too soon puts direct pressure across the tummy.
✅ Wait at least 30 minutes before tummy time to reduce discomfort and reflux irritation.

⏰ Timing really is everything — keeping baby upright for 30 minutes after a feed helps their system digest more efficiently and can significantly reduce reflux episodes.

Mamas, you deserve to feel confident and supported — and your bub deserves comfort. If you want them to feel happier and more relaxed in their little body, these positions are your go-to.

✨ Save this so you can remember exactly what to do after every feed.
