Life after bariatric surgery isn't only about *what* you eat — how you eat matters too.

Eating slowly, taking smaller bites and chewing food thoroughly can help you recognise fullness and may make meals more comfortable after surgery.

Try putting your cutlery down between bites and giving yourself permission to make mealtimes a little less rushed. 🍽️

And remember, adjusting to eating after bariatric surgery takes time. If something doesn’t feel right, or you're finding nutrition challenging, reach out to your bariatric healthcare team for individual advice.

💚 Our team is here to support you beyond surgery, too.

If you've tried to lose weight time and time again, only to find yourself battling hunger or regaining the weight, there may be much more happening beneath the surface.

Our brains and bodies have complex systems designed to regulate hunger, fullness and energy balance — and these systems can actively resist weight loss.

This is also part of the science behind bariatric surgery. For suitable patients, surgery can influence the hormonal and gut-to-brain signals involved in appetite and fullness, helping support long-term weight management alongside ongoing lifestyle and clinical support.

If you've been considering bariatric surgery, you've probably wondered...

"Why does my body seem to work against me?"

One reason is that fat tissue is much more than stored energy.

Research shows that fat tissue acts like an active organ, releasing hormones and inflammatory signals that can affect appetite, metabolism and overall health. That's one of the reasons obesity is recognised as a complex, chronic medical condition—not simply a matter of willpower.

Understanding what's happening inside your body can be empowering. It also helps explain why evidence-based treatments, including bariatric surgery for the right candidates, can be an effective tool alongside nutrition, psychological support and long-term lifestyle changes.

Every person's journey is different, and the best treatment starts with understanding your unique circumstances.
