You can be highly capable… and still completely exhausted.

Many women leaders are carrying enormous responsibility:
👉leading teams,
👉making constant decisions,
👉holding emotional load,
👉managing competing demands,
👉continuing to perform at a high level while quietly running on empty.

At some point, simply pushing harder stops working.

That’s why we created She Leads Well.

A transformational leadership and wellbeing retreat in Ubud, Bali, designed specifically for women who want to lead sustainably, clearly, and confidently — without sacrificing themselves in the process.

Facilitated by psychologists Dr Simone Shaw and Miriam Henke, this immersive experience combines leadership development, psychology, nervous system regulation, strategic planning, coaching, and restorative wellbeing practices to help women reconnect with themselves, their vision, and the kind of leader they want to become.

Joining us is award-winning photographer and confidence coach Jaya McIntyre, who will guide powerful personal brand and leadership presence experiences designed to strengthen confidence, visibility, and identity.

Across 6 transformative days, you’ll experience:
• leadership and wellbeing workshops
• strategic vision and planning sessions
• pre- and post-retreat coaching
• yoga, mindfulness, and nervous system regulation practices
• spa treatments and sound healing
• professional leadership photos
• meaningful connection with like-minded women leaders
• space to breathe, reflect, reset, and think clearly again

This is not just a retreat.
It’s an opportunity to step away from constant pressure long enough to reconnect with what truly matters.

Tonight Simone and Miriam attended the Sunshine Coast Business Women's Network Soiree, with guest speakers Jaya McIntyre and Shelley Dark. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening, learning about 2 amazing women's journey through change to new levels of self-discovery. When organisations aim to improve mental health at work, the default response is often to increase support:
• wellbeing programs
• resilience training
• Employee Assistance Programs

These are valuable. But on their own, they are rarely sufficient.
Mental health in the workplace is not only influenced by the availability of support. It is shaped by how work is designed and experienced on a daily basis.

In many organisations, there is a genuine commitment to wellbeing. At the same time, employees are navigating:
• sustained high workloads
• unclear roles and expectations
• limited autonomy
• ongoing organisational change

This creates a common disconnect. Support is added, but the underlying conditions contributing to stress remain unchanged.

What we consistently see in both research and practice is that effective approaches take a broader, systems-level view.

This involves shifting the question from:
“What support do we offer?”
to:
“What kind of environment are we creating?”

Mentally healthy workplaces are characterised by:
• psychological safety
• role clarity and realistic workload design
• leadership capability to recognise and respond to early signs of stress
• opportunities for employee voice and contribution

This is not only a wellbeing issue. It is a performance and risk issue.

Mental health challenges cost the global economy over $1 trillion annually in lost productivity. In Australia, the cost to organisations is significant, particularly through absenteeism and presenteeism.

At the same time, employees are increasingly making employment decisions based on how well their wellbeing is supported.

Organisations that take a more integrated approach tend to see improvements in engagement, retention, and overall performance.

From our work with organisations, the most effective strategies are layered:
• strengthening leadership capability
• improving clarity in roles, priorities, and decision-making
• normalising conversations about mental health
• embedding practical, accessible support systems

A useful reflection for leaders:
Are we investing in support initiatives without addressing the conditions in which people are working?

We explore this in more detail here:

Does your workplace run on constant urgency?
When everything feels important, deadlines keep stacking, and people are always “on,” stress slowly becomes normalised.

Over time this can lead to:
• trouble switching off after work
• mental fatigue
• poorer focus and decisions
• overwhelm
• high performers carrying too much

This isn’t just a productivity issue. It’s a wellbeing risk.

One of the most useful questions leaders can ask is:
If something new comes in, what needs to move or drop?

Because workload can’t keep increasing without a cost.

We’ve shared practical strategies to manage workplace stress and create healthier, more sustainable performance in our latest blog.

Burnout doesn’t usually arrive all at once. It often builds quietly through ongoing stress, pressure, responsibility and not enough time to recover.

What starts as “just tired” can become emotional exhaustion, reduced motivation, irritability, poor focus and feeling overwhelmed by everyday tasks.

Burnout is not weakness. It’s a signal that something needs to change.

A helpful question to ask yourself or your team:
Are we tired… or are we depleted?

We’ve shared practical ways to recognise burnout early and support real recovery in our latest blog.

Leading Wellness Solutions also sends regular email insights on workplace mental health, leadership and wellbeing.

There’s a lot of noise when it comes to leadership and wellbeing.
Quick tips. Surface-level advice. One-size-fits-all solutions.

But real change is a bit more nuanced than that.
It’s about understanding people.
How stress actually works.
What leaders are navigating behind the scenes.
And what genuinely supports sustainable performance.

That’s what we aim to share in our blogs.

Simone and Miriam really enjoyed the Australian Institute of Health & Safety (AIHS) Sunshine Coast event held yesterday in Buderim. A very friendly and enthusiastic crowd of people in safety across a diverse range of industries - a delight to meet!

We heard from the amazing Sara Pazell, who presented "Clarity Amidst Complexity: Work Design and Workload Management", a value-packed presentation with lots of great insights and strategies.

Check out Sara's WhyWork Podcast which explores "the uncomfortable realities of work and the stuff that can go really wrong" https://lnkd.in/gsDx2wX3

🎄Merry Christmas?!? 🎄

Simone and Miriam (finally) celebrated Christmas together on Friday at one of the Sunshine Coast's best restaurants, The Spirit House, and had a chance to reflect on the achievements of 2024 and plan for 2025.

We celebrated some big milestones for Leading Wellness Solutions:
🤝 We discovered we are a dynamic team who work exceptionally well together ("GOATed" as Simone's 9 year old would say!).
🔎 Our branding was finalised, the website went live, and we created an infrastructure for our business to connect with clients and strategic partners.
✅ We ran a highly successful workshop for the Defence Science and Technology Group, at the MCG in Melbourne.
👩‍💼Our 6-part webinar series, "Healthy Minds, Thriving Workplaces" saw us educate and engage with 100+ individuals and provided valued content for our website and YouTube channel.
🫶We thoroughly enjoyed having the amazing Sienna as a psychology student on placement, whose contributions were invaluable (and we look forward to continue working with her!).
😄We had fun!

We have big plans for 2025, and very much look forward to achieving the next milestones we've set for ourselves.

If your business needs assistance with wellness in the workplace, mental health education, communication skill training or leadership development programs, we have a range of programs available to suit. We can create bespoke programs for both large and small organisations to create "Transformational change you can be sure of!"

Wow what a fantastic time Simone and Miriam had at the MCG yesterday with the AIRMAR team from the Defence Science and Technology Group. We facilitated a workshop on Thriving Under Pressure, exploring all things to do with stress management, burnout prevention, emotional intelligence and effective communication. It was a workshop full of practical skill-building, self-awareness development, and nurturing a more supportive workplace culture.

Melbourne's foggy weather turned to blue skies and we loved the connection with this group of high-level scientists and leaders in defence. Big thanks to Deanne, Lisa, Toni and Ninh for having us to assist with your people development and inspire your strategic planning in workplace wellness!
