😔 Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder is a complex condition marked by severe emotional and physical symptoms in the luteal phase, including anxiety, irritability, mood swings, fatigue, and brain fog 🧠

💭 One area gaining attention is the potential role of histamine in symptom severity 🧬 Histamine is an inflammatory compound involved in immune responses, gut health, and it also interacts with estrogen 🔬 Because histamine can stimulate estrogen release (and estrogen can reduce histamine breakdown) a feedback loop may develop in some people 🔁

🤧 For those sensitive to histamine, this loop may contribute to worsening PMDD symptoms premenstrually, especially when hormone levels fluctuate ⚖️

🩺 While research is still evolving, some people report symptom relief with approaches like gut support, stress reduction, individualised dietary strategies, and anti-histamine medication, but there is no one-size-fits-all solution 💊

🔬 A new study by Kikuchi et al. (2026) suggests that loss of the X chromosome in blood cells may be linked to lower chances of natural conception in women 🧬 The researchers found that as some blood cells lose an X chromosome with age, this “mosaic change” may reflect broader biological ageing processes that also affect reproductive health 👶

🤔 While this doesn’t mean fertility can be predicted by a single test, it could become a new biomarker alongside existing tools like AMH to better understand reproductive potential 🩺

📝 It’s an early finding, but it adds another piece to the complex puzzle of fertility, reminding us that ageing is not just about the ovaries, but the whole body 🥚 If you want to understand your fertility, start by making an appointment to see me 📞
