Or even avoiding certain movements and sitting out of things he used to enjoy.

It doesn’t need to be like this. There is a better way!

Those changes can happen gradually, which makes them easy to overlook.

We can look at the body through a more structured lens. We assess how Dad is moving, where tension or restriction may be building, and what kind of therapeutic bodywork may help him feel more supported.

This isn’t about a quick fix or a one-off massage.

Dad will reconnect with his body, understand what has changed, and take a more considered step towards moving and feeling better 💪⚡

These early signs often appear long before race day.

For runners preparing for the Sydney Marathon, this is worth paying attention to early 🏃‍♀️

As fatigue builds, the body may begin to protect, shorten, or shift load somewhere else. The pelvis can become restricted, the torso may stop rotating freely, the shoulders can start to work harder, or the lower legs may begin taking more demand than they should.

Questions to start thinking about…

➝What starts to change in my body when fatigue arrives?
➝Does your head position shift?
➝Does your neck start to ache?
➝Do your hips feel locked?
➝Does your torso stop moving?
➝Do your arms or shoulders begin carrying tension?

Preparation is not only about kilometres. It is also about awareness, recovery, nutrition, and supporting the body so it can keep moving efficiently under fatigue.

If you are training for the Sydney Marathon, now is the time to start noticing what your body is telling you 🥇

work.
The side you favour.

The positions you hold for hours.

The stress you carry without noticing.

Pain can feel sudden, but it is often not without context.

Repeated demands can influence how the body shares load, where tension builds, and which areas start to compensate.

The painful area may be where the body is speaking the loudest, but it is not always where the full pattern begins.

We need to go beyond the symptoms and ask better questions.

👉 What has this body been doing again and again?
👉 What is working too hard?
👉 What is not moving or contributing well?
👉 What pattern keeps returning?

That is where structured therapeutic work begins.

If you have adapted around pain or reduced movement for too long, this may be the point to take a closer look.

It shows up in small adjustments.

And then the workaround can start to feel normal.

Adaptation is not always an improvement. The body has just found another way to manage restriction, tension, discomfort, or load.

At Healing Hands, we look at what has changed, how your body is compensating, and what pattern may be contributing underneath the restriction.

Thank you, Indy, for your thoughtful words.

What means the most to us is when clients feel genuinely seen, supported, and guided through a process that looks beyond the obvious area of pain.

Pain doesn’t always begin where you feel it most.

In this case, it’s especially relevant because this client is a beautician — which often means hours spent leaning forward, working with precision, and repeating the same movements again and again. As the body responds to these demands, what begins as a working posture can gradually turn into a pattern of tension, strain, and compensation.

Often, the area that feels sore or tight is simply the part of the body carrying the load of everything happening around it.

That’s why treatment shouldn’t just focus on the painful spot. It has to look at how the body is organising itself as a whole — how the shoulder is being supported, what the neck is doing, how posture at work is influencing the pattern, and where the body may no longer be distributing load well.

Pain is not random and is the result of what the body has been repeatedly asked to do.

For people in hands-on professions like beauty therapy, those small daily positions and repetitive movements have a bigger impact than they might realise.

If you keep stretching the same area and it keeps tightening again, that is a sign to stop guessing and take a closer look at what is really going on.

A tight feeling doesn’t always mean the tissue simply needs more length. Sometimes the area is working too hard, protecting, or taking on load that should be better shared through the rest of the body.

That is why stretching can feel good in the moment, but still not change much long term.

Genuine relief starts with understanding why that area is under so much demand, then addressing the broader pattern behind it.

If the same area keeps getting tight no matter how much you stretch it, book in for a more structured look at what your body may actually need.

Thank you, Jackie, for sharing your experience. Feedback like this really matters because it speaks to the heart of why this work is so important.

If you can feel tension starting to build, it is worth listening to that early.

Many jobs ask the body to repeat the same movements and positions every single day. Those patterns can lead to tension, strain, and discomfort when they’re not recognised and supported in the right way.

Notice what your body is telling you — the sooner the better — and get the right support before it becomes a bigger problem.

The biggest change comes from understanding what your body is going through during the day and what it needs afterwards to recover, reset, and ease the ongoing load.
