Clinrol is proud to be a finalist in the Australian AI Awards 2026.

We’ve been shortlisted in the AI Innovator - Healthcare category, alongside some of the most interesting AI companies in the country.

We built Clinrol to leverage AI and address a common cause for why clinical trials stall: finding enough eligible patients. Today, our platform matches patients to studies in real time, with a nurse or clinical coordinator reviewing every referral before it reaches a site. AI helps identify and match patients at scale, and humans can provide the clinical oversight.

Recognition for our approach means a lot to our team, who work in a hard but critical corner of health tech.

A treatment can only be proven safe and effective for all patients if it’s tested across diverse populations. To achieve diversity in clinical trials, a range of strategies are being implemented.

First, researchers are using broader protocol criteria to remove unnecessary inclusion and exclusion barriers.

They are also establishing accessible site locations directly within diverse and underserved communities.

Partnering with local community leaders and advocacy groups helps build lasting trust across different demographics.

Additionally, offering decentralised options like remote visits and travel support makes participation much easier for regional patients.

Finally, teams are delivering culturally relevant, translated educational materials that accommodate all literacy levels.

For real representation to happen, it has to be prioritised and built into the clinical trial.

Welcome back to Trial Talk Tuesdays. Today, we'll be answering one of our most asked questions: "Do participants get paid for clinical trials?"

The answer is that it depends entirely on the trial.

Whether compensation is provided, and how much, varies on a study to study basis. Payments are designed to cover your time, travel and effort rather than to buy your participation.

With healthy volunteers, early-stage trials can offer direct compensation due to the heavy time commitment or required overnight stays.

For patient volunteers, trials for specific medical conditions usually offer travel reimbursement, covered medical care or visit stipends.

Your safety is the first priority in clinical trials, so who are the groups ensuring that there is ethical compliance?

It’s Trial Talk Tuesday so lets learn about the main groups responsible for this:

Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) or Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC and EC): These are independent panels of people from the community, ranging from doctors and lawyers to community members, who review plans for clinical trials to ensure they are ethically acceptable.

Regulatory Authorities: You might have heard of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the US, who enforce federal laws and Good Clinical Practice guidelines. This is what a regulatory authority does, as they make the final decision to approve a drug for the public.

Data and Safety Monitoring Boards (DSMBs): These are independent committees of clinical experts that periodically review trial data to decide whether a trial should be modified, continued, or terminated.

Principal Investigators (P*s): These researchers are on the ground, personally overseeing the medical care of participants and reporting any unexpected results to the other oversight bodies.

These groups are all held to the highest standard to ensure that your safety is upheld at every stage of the trial.

Prescriptions for GLP-1 agonists have more than tripled since 2020.*

Everyone is discussing GLP-1s at the moment, and there's a lot of buzz in the media, so let's talk about it.

What is a GLP-1? A GLP-1 is a natural hormone that your body produces to regulate blood sugar and suppress your appetite by telling your brain you're full.

Researchers created synthetic versions that mimic this hormone, boosting GLP-1 levels in the body to support major weight loss.

GLP-1 medications are typically administered via weekly injector pens or daily oral tablets.

GLP-1s were originally approved by the FDA for managing Type 2 Diabetes, and now several of them have been approved for weight management.
