It’s World Breastfeeding Week and it’s worth saying the quiet part out loud.
Breast milk isn’t where a baby’s toxic exposure begins. It’s often where a mother’s own body burden becomes visible… fat-soluble industrial chemicals like PCBs and PBDEs concentrate in milk fat and even PFAS (“forever chemicals”) transfer through lactation at measurable rates.
None of this changes the evidence: breastfeeding remains the WHO-recommended standard and the benefits still outweigh the risks. What it does change is when we start the conversation. The real window of opportunity isn’t after birth it’s preconception, when reducing a patient’s chemical body burden can lower what’s ultimately passed on.
This is exactly the territory Erin Willson unpacks in August’s webinar — the everyday exposures shaping fertility, pregnancy and lactation, and what practitioners can actually do about it.

Some surprising and hopeful facts from data that was gathered during COVID. It’s worth exploring all birthing options for such an important event. Hannah Dahlens presentation showed us that the better care a woman had during pregnancy, birth and in the months following birth correlates with the best health & developmental outcomes for baby.

Our webinar with Prof. Hannah Dahlen was informative, enlightening and sometimes shocking. A reminder that as practitioners we must always keep our humanity and never forget the human on the other side of the patient chart.

Whatever happened to those days when we thoughtlessly enjoyed our hot coffee from a takeaway cup, happily sautéed our mushrooms with a black plastic spatula (that washed easily) and put warm water into a plastic baby bottle to feed our precious child? Well we all grew up and someone switched on the light.
Join us in August, we're bringing you the very clever Erin Willson to help shine a light on how we can move forward and really reduce the toxic load on mum, dad and baby.

“Life is what happens to you when you’re busy making other plans” John Lennon

Did you birthing experience go as you thought it would...how much did you plan or no? We learned from Hannah Dahlen this past week that the child’s early development can be significantly influenced by the care that the mother is given during and especially post birth. Maybe at baby showers we need to be setting up a care calendar…who’s dropping off food on what days…who’s taking the baby for a walk while mum & dad get an hour to themselves? Did you have family or a tribe to support you? What’s your birth story?

We’re kicking off the Beyond Fertility Frontiers webinar series with Professor Hannah Dahlen AM, one of Australia’s most respected midwifery researchers, with over 35 years of clinical and academic experience and 300+ published papers to her name.

Hannah will unpack “How Birth Experiences Shape Maternal Mental Health and Child Wellbeing”, exploring birth trauma and its lasting psychological impact, the real difference between shared and steered decision-making, and the surprising link between how we give birth and our baby’s gut health. She’ll also bring us up to speed on what the current research says about postnatal depression, stress, the microbiome, and what women actually want from maternity care.

Whether you’re a midwife, naturopath, nutritionist, GP or allied health practitioner, this is practical, cross-disciplinary insight you’ll want in your back pocket.

Tap the link in our bio to register your interest. As a celebration of our inaugural webinar, BFF is delighted to offer this event as our gift to the practitioner community. Can’t wait to see you there. This is Beyond Fertility Frontiers.
