Our western Sydney specialist Rob Ambrose discussing the snakes in western Sydney

08/09/2026

Glenmore Park and Penrith are among western Sydney’s busiest snake hotspots, according to Sydney Snake Catcher, the region’s largest reptile relocation service.

Unseasonably warm weather for spring has already pushed snake activity to higher levels than historically seen in the first week of September, with local residents encountering snakes at an accelerated rate.

“Glenmore Park is our number one suburb for callouts,” said Rob Ambrose, senior catcher for Sydney Snake Catcher.

“We have been attending jobs for years. Typically we’re seeing a pretty even split between brown snakes and black snakes.

This was something a little different.
We catch Diamond Pythons right throughout the year, but to find one in the middle of winter that had only just eaten a large meal is pretty unusual.

A collection of "designer" snakes once valued at more than $20,000 has been dumped in a park in Sydney's west.

They were discovered in Werrington this week by a reptile handler who was investigating a tip-off about dead snakes.

While the carcasses were not unusual in appearance, the keen-eyed bushwalker had noticed they were not native to the area and had called for help.

Rob Ambrose, a veteran handler at Sydney Snake Catcher, said after examining photos of the animals, he was "mystified" and decided to venture into the park.

"Appalling" is how the situation has been described by an expert in the field.

A red-bellied black snake, possibly the largest ever recorded, was found in Glenhaven, Australia. The snake, measuring 1.945 metres, was donated to the Australian Museum and confirmed to be the largest in its collection.

We’re insanely excited to finally share this.

We commissioned the very talented Rachael Hammond to bring this poster to life, and after a lot of work behind the scenes, it’s landed exactly where we hoped it would.

Huge thanks to Rachael for the time, effort and skill she’s put into it — it shows.

If you’d like one, you can grab it via the link below. Once you click “Add to Cart,” the item will appear in the top right corner in your cart.
