🇯🇵 6 weeks to Japan.
💼 Full-time job + part-time job.
🦁 Lion dancing.
🏋️ Over a year away from the gym.

“Finding time to exercise and having time for myself.”

That was one of the biggest challenges Ivan shared when starting.

With work, lion dancing, and everything else filling the week, training kept getting pushed back.

One missed week became a month.
And eventually, more than a year.

Food was whatever fit into the day:
➡️ Mum’s home-cooked Chinese dishes
➡️ Fast food between commitments
➡️ Uber Eats when rushing to work or lion dancing
➡️ No calorie tracking or clear nutrition structure

Keeping up with your responsibilities, but making time for yourself always comes last.

With a Japan holiday six weeks away, we now have a clear goal to work towards. 🇯🇵

The focus?
✅️ Rebuild consistency in the gym
✅️ Create an approach to food that fits a busy schedule
✅️ Learn how to manage portions and convenient meals
✅️ Make time for personal progress alongside other commitments

As a coach, I need to understand the life a plan has to fit into.

If your mum cooks dinner, we work with those meals.

If you grab takeaway between shifts, we build a few reliable options.

If your week is packed, we set a training schedule you can realistically repeat.

The plan needs to work on your busiest days, too. 👊

For this six-week prep, the priorities are simple:
✔ A manageable return to training
✔ Nutrition awareness and portion guidance
✔ Planning around work and lion dancing
✔ Regular check-ins and adjustments

Six weeks won’t undo every habit or guarantee a complete transformation.

But it’s an opportunity to start showing up for yourself again and build habits you can carry beyond the holiday.

We also worked a gameplan for japan and set some realistic expectations on what Ivan can do their to ensure he is enjoying the holiday but also keeping what he worked hard for!

If you’ve been telling yourself:
• “I’ll start when work settles down.”
• “I can’t diet because I eat what my family cooks.”
• “I’ve been out of the gym too long.”
• “I just don’t have time.”

Let’s figure out what you CAN make room for.

DM me “NAKAMA” and let’s build yours. 💚

Asian groceries are actually a goldmine for low-calorie finds 👀🔥

Most people walk straight past these because they assume Asian snacks, drinks and desserts are automatically “too high calorie” for fat loss.

But if you actually check the labels, there are heaps of options that can easily fit into your calories 👇🏽
🥤 Zero/low-calorie teas & drinks
🍧 Sorbet and lighter frozen treats
🍡 Mochi around 47 calories per piece
🍈 Melona bars around 110 calories
🥛 Low-calorie konjac jelly
🍨 Plenty of portion-controlled desserts

And this is exactly why I don’t believe a fat-loss diet needs to be chicken, rice and broccoli every day 😂

The goal isn’t to remove every food you enjoy.

It’s learning how to find better options, manage portions and make your calories work for you.

You can still have sweet drinks.
You can still eat dessert.
You can still enjoy the foods you grew up eating.
You just need to know what to look for.

Save this for your next Asian grocery run 🛒🇯🇵

Two strength sessions a week could make a real difference to your health 💪🏽

In the Resist Diabetes trial, sedentary adults aged 50–69 with prediabetes completed supervised, full-body resistance training twice a week.

Basic machines. Leg presses, chest presses, rows and more.

After 3 months, 34% of participants had blood glucose levels below the study’s prediabetes thresholds. 🔥

That’s a promising result but it doesn’t mean lifting guarantees a cure. The initial training phase had no non-exercising comparison group, so we can’t attribute all the improvement to lifting alone.

Why does muscle matter? 🔑

Your muscles use glucose for energy. Resistance training can help improve how your body handles blood sugar, giving you another reason to stay consistent beyond what you see in the mirror.

At Nakama Academy, we want you building strength and habits that support your health for years to come.

Start with a manageable routine. Learn the movements. Keep showing up. 👊🏽

You don’t have to lose flavour to lose fat‼️ 🛒

Come shopping at Woolies with me!

These are the sauces I use to make my everyday meals taste better while staying on track. 🙌🏽

Because how many times can you eat dry chicken and plain rice before you start questioning your entire fitness journey? 😂

If you dread every meal on your plan, sticking to it becomes a whole lot harder.

A simple sauce swap can turn another boring meal into something you actually look forward to eating. More flavour, more variety, and options that fit your calorie budget.

Just remember: serving sizes still count. Check the label and measure your pour especially when “a little drizzle” turns into half the bottle. 👀

At Nakama Academy, we want you building habits you can stick to, with food you enjoy. 💚

Travel doesn’t have to mean throwing your routine out the window ✈️

One of the biggest things we teach inside Nakama Academy is how to make progress fit around your life not make your life revolve around your diet.

Because when you travel, things are naturally going to change. Your usual meals might not be available, your schedule gets thrown around, and you’ll probably eat out more often.

That doesn’t mean you need to “start again” when you get home.

Instead, focus on a few simple anchors:
🟢 Build meals around protein + carbs + fats
🟢 Keep a few easy, portable snacks with you
🟢 Stay on top of water and hydration
🟢 Make the best choice available without chasing perfection
🟢 Enjoy the foods you actually want without turning the whole trip into a free-for-all

The goal isn’t to eat perfectly on holiday.

It’s to have enough structure that you can enjoy your trip, stay energised, and come home without feeling like you’ve undone weeks of progress.

In this post we’ve broken down simple options for hotel buffets, airports, service stations, takeaway spots and flights so you know what to look for wherever you are.

Save this for your next trip ✈️ and send it to someone who always says “I can’t stick to my diet when I travel.”

Fat loss shouldn't mean giving up your life.

Carbs, eating out, dinners, parties, social gatherings, special occasions and holidays can all be present.

Trying to lose fat but feel like your calories disappear way too quickly? 👀

Sometimes it’s not about eating less, it’s about making smarter swaps that give you more food, more protein, more fibre and more satisfaction for the same calorie budget.

That doesn’t mean the higher-calorie option is “bad” either.

At Nakama Academy, we don’t believe you need to cut out the foods you love to make progress. 🍔🍫🍚

If you want the higher-calorie option, have it.

If you’re trying to create more room in your day, use the lower-calorie swap.

The goal is learning how to make choices that fit your goals, your lifestyle and your preferences without feeling like you’re constantly “on a diet.”

Sometimes the problem isn’t what’s happening.

It’s the story you’re telling yourself about it.

You missed one workout.

You ate more than planned.

The scale went up.

You had a bad weekend.

And suddenly your brain goes:

“I’m falling off again.” “I’ve ruined my progress.” “I’m just not disciplined enough.”

But what if you looked at it differently?

One missed workout doesn’t mean you’re inconsistent.

One higher-calorie meal doesn’t mean you’ve failed your diet.

One bad weigh-in doesn’t mean you’ve gained fat.

One difficult week doesn’t erase months of progress.

The people who get long-term results aren’t the people who never struggle.

They’re the people who learn how to reframe the struggle.

Instead of:

❌ “I messed everything up.”

✅ “What can I learn from this?”

Instead of:

❌ “I need to start again Monday.”

✅ “What’s the next best decision I can make?”

Instead of seeing setbacks as proof that you can’t do it.

Start seeing them as part of learning how to do it for life.

Because your perspective affects your decisions.

And your decisions, repeated over time, create your results.

If you’re constantly stuck in the cycle of doing well → slipping up → beating yourself up → starting over…

You probably don’t need another stricter diet.

You need a better way of thinking about the process.

That’s a huge part of what I teach my clients inside Nakama Academy.

If you want to lose fat, build better habits and stop feeling like one bad day ruins everything…

🏅 Client: Hendrick. M
📉 Weight: 83kg ➡️ 77kg = 6kg
📏Stats: 460cm ➡️ 435cm = 71cm
🎯Goal: Body Recomp, Improved Quality of Life, Fat Loss
❌ Problems: Structure, Consistency, Father of Two, 2 x ACL reconstructions

Since having my second kid, I just haven’t been able to find balance.

Life had just changed.

He wanted to get back in shape, but he also wanted something that actually worked around his life.

The problem wasn’t that he didn’t know exercise was important.

The problem was finding a way to actually make it sustainable.

With work, family responsibilities and existing injuries, trying to force a 6-day training split and hours of cardio was never going to work.

So instead, we built around his reality.

We focused on:
• Structured resistance training
• Progressive overload around his limitations
• Gradually increasing daily movement
• Better nutrition without unnecessary restriction
• Improving consistency instead of chasing perfection
• Managing training around his ACL history

And the results speak for themselves:

• Weight: 83kg ➡️ 77kg
• Waist: 93.5cm ➡️ 82cm
• Total measurements: 460cm ➡️ 435cm

As a coach, my job isn’t just to make the number on the scale go down.

My focus is:
✔ Deliver your physical goal
✔ Build strength and capability
✔ Work around injuries intelligently
✔ Improve your health and quality of life
✔ Create a system you can maintain around work and family

He learned:
• How to train effectively train at home
• How to increase movement around a busy lifestyle
• How to manage nutrition with a family
• How to work around previous injuries

If you’ve had kids, work long hours and feel like your own health has slowly been pushed to the bottom of the priority list

You don’t necessarily need more time.

You need a plan that actually works with the time you have.

DM me “NAKAMA” and let’s build the physique, performance and quality of life you want without sacrificing everything else that matters.
