NNF 2026 has come to a close, with a standing ovation for our final speaker, Andrew Denton.
In a powerful keynote, the founder of the voluntary assisted dying (VAD) advocacy organisation, Go Gentle, sent a call to the nursing community – a profession, he said, he has a deep bias towards.
Noting that views may vary on VAD, he called on attendees to contact their federal MPs and the Attorney-General to express support for lifting the ban on access to VAD via telehealth – and asked ACN to show its support for ending the ban.
“None of us knows how our dying will be. All we know for sure is that our deaths are ours, and ours alone. And in the words of Ram Dass, we are all just walking each other home,” he said. “Everyone here today is, one way or another, deeply invested in that last intimate act. So let's do it well.”
Thank you Andrew – and thank you to our nursing community for a bucket-filling National Nursing Forum.
Now – bring on NNF 2027 on the Gold Coast 🌞
