They were not killed for what they had done. They were killed simply because they were Bosniak Muslims.

11 July 1995 ❗️

More than 8,000 Bosniak men and boys some as young as 13 years old were systematically murdered after being separated from their families. Mothers watched their sons taken away never to see them again.

Their only “crime” was belonging to the wrong ethnic group in the eyes of those who wanted to destroy them.

No ideology, no politics and no hatred can ever justify the systematic murder of innocent people.

The executions were not the only crime. Throughout the war civilians were subjected to ethnic cleansing, mass displacement, systematic sexual violence, torture, detention camps and other atrocities that left countless families and communities permanently scarred.

If “Never Again” is to mean anything then it must apply to every people, everywhere. We must reject genocide, ethnic cleansing and the dehumanisation of any human being without exception.

May the victims of Srebrenica rest in eternal peace. We honour their memory by refusing to forget them and by standing against such crimes wherever they occur.

Australia’s Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism is not the solution, she is part of the problem.

Her name is Jillian Segal❗️

Imagine appointing someone to combat antisemitism only for one of her public concerns to be that media reporting creates a negative impression of the occupation …

Can someone reach out and let her know that the problem is not the journalists reporting what is happening.

The problem is what is happening‼️

When tens of thousands of children are killed, when women are buried beneath the rubble, when entire neighbourhoods are destroyed the answer is not to pressure the media into looking away. The answer is to demand accountability …

An envoy that asks the journalists to close its eyes in the face of human suffering is not defending peace. It is defending silence.

Criticising an occupation is not antisemitism. Reporting facts is not antisemitism. Demanding justice is not antisemitism.

When the line between fighting hatred and protecting a brutal occupation image becomes blurred you don’t reduce antisemitism, you actually undermine the credibility of the fight against it.

Jillian, truth is not the enemy, silence is.

Double standards do not protect Australia they weaken us❗️

Albanese condemned China’s recent long range ballistic missile test into the Pacific as “provocative” and “destabilising”

If long range ballistic missile tests into the Pacific are considered provocative and destabilising, then that principle should apply regardless of which country does them.

The United States has conducted hundreds of long range ballistic missile tests into the Pacific and we have never condemned. China has conducted three ONLY …

Australia weakens its own credibility when it applies one standard to one country and a different standard to another. China should be criticised when it deserves criticism. The same should apply to the United States.

China is our largest trading partner and an important neighbour. The United States is one of our closest allies. Australia should engage with both from a position of independence and consistency.
