Week 7 β Social Skills / Social Participation π€
β¨ Occupational Therapy Thursdayβ¨
Qeek seven of β this week we're covering social skills. π€
Social participation involves the everyday skills we use to connect with others β reading cues, sharing conversation, and navigating relationships. When these skills don't come naturally, socialising can feel exhausting or confusing, even when someone genuinely wants connection.
OTs work with adults to build skills for:
π Reading body language and facial expressions
π£οΈ Taking turns in conversation
π Understanding personal space
π Joining a group activity or conversation
π€ Navigating friendships and conflict
π Adjusting communication style to different people or settings
Social participation difficulties are common with autism, ADHD, social anxiety, brain injury and mental health conditions β and they're often misread as disinterest, when really the skills just need practice and support.
An OT helps build confidence and practical strategies for connecting with others β so social situations feel less overwhelming and more enjoyable.
Save this and share it with someone who needs to hear that support is available π
Caught up on fine motor, gross motor, cognitive skills, executive functioning, sensory processing and emotional regulation? They're all on our page πΏ
