ADHD is about more than behaviour — it’s also about what may be happening inside the body. 🧠

For many children, challenges like restlessness, emotional outbursts, difficulty focusing, poor sleep, and big mood shifts can be connected to things like gut health, nutrient deficiencies, blood sugar balance, and nervous system regulation.

Because the gut and brain are so closely connected, supporting digestion, nutrition, and key nutrients can play an important role in helping children feel calmer, more focused, and better able to manage their emotions.

That’s exactly why we created the Healthy Brain Bundle — a practical resource designed to help parents better understand the nutrients, supplements, and foundational support that may help with mood, sleep, behaviour, and overall brain health. 💛

When we support the body as a whole, we can often support the child in a much deeper way.

More families are turning to microbiome testing to better understand eczema, allergies, digestive symptoms and immune concerns.

But there is one important issue parents need to be aware of.

Most microbiome test results are still interpreted using adult reference ranges.

And children’s microbiomes are not the same as adult microbiomes.

👧Children naturally have lower microbiome diversity.
🦠 They may have higher levels of certain bacteria, like Bifidobacterium.
⚡️Markers like zonulin and secretory IgA can also be much harder to interpret in children, especially when age and health history are not considered.

This matters because misinterpretation can lead to
💊unnecessary supplements,
🍽️ restrictive diets and
🤝protocols that may not be appropriate for the child.

Microbiome testing can be helpful.

But it needs to be interpreted by someone who understands paediatric microbiome development.

If you are wondering whether microbiome testing is right for your child, comment SUPPORT to book an Initial Consultation with one of our Certified Paediatric Microbiome Clinicians.

Allergies, ADHD, emotional dysregulation and gut symptoms can feel like separate issues.🤧🦠

But in some children, they are part of a bigger picture.

One older child we supported had allergies, ADHD and significant emotional dysregulation.

We initially focused on improving sleep and allergy symptoms with targeted nutrients, alongside dietary and lifestyle support.

There were some great improvements overall, but emotionally, he was still struggling.
Because symptoms were persisting, we ran a microbiome test.

The results showed high levels of methane-producing bacteria. When these bacteria are overgrown, they can slow gut motility, meaning stool stays in the gut for longer. This can contribute to further dysbiosis and inflammation.

Once we had this information, we were able to use targeted probiotics and prebiotics to support a healthier microbiome and improve bowel transit time.

The changes were significant, with improvements in both emotional regulation and allergy symptoms.

This is why we always ask about bowel movements, even when a child is presenting with allergies, behaviour changes, or emotional dysregulation.

Sometimes, looking deeper into gut health uncovers an important piece of the puzzle.

What if your child’s eczema is being driven by more than the skin?

Eczema can be frustrating, especially when you feel like you have already tried the obvious things.

You may have removed a trigger food.
You may have changed skincare products.
You may have been told they will grow out of it.

But for many children, eczema needs a deeper investigation.

The gut microbiome, immune function, food reactions, histamine, environmental triggers, and skin barrier health can all play a role.
This is why looking at the full picture matters.

If your child’s eczema started after antibiotics, appears alongside digestive symptoms, or is still flaring even after removing a known trigger food, it may be time to look deeper.

The Eczema and Allergy Program walks you through the gut-skin connection and the key areas that may be contributing to ongoing eczema.
